Mermaid 2006

Thanks, Q  Though sexy is not a word I would use to describe myself :worried:

Posting up Sunday as I am flying down to Sydney shortly. A welcome day off the gym tomorrow, I am aching ALL over now.

Day 20 Sunday 7 May 2006
Meal 1 - 1 large oatmeal banana pancake, 1 tbsp almond butter, drizzle maple syrup
Meal 2 - 3 scoop whey, 1 scoop maltodextrin
Meal 3 - 4oz turkey, ½ sweet potato, 1 cup spinach
Meal 4 - 1 apple, 1oz almonds
Meal 5 - Dinner out with friend TBD – no alcohol or cheating though, I promise

PW cardio steady state - 30 mins treadmill – 6.3kph @ 3% incline

DB incline press 5x7 (7,8,10,12 ½ , 12 ½ )
Pull down 5x7 (25, 30, 35, 40, 42 ½ )
Deadlifts 5x7 (20, 30, 35, 40, 42 ½ )
Flat bench flyes 3x8 (6,7,8)
Rear delt rows 5x7 (15, 17 ½, 20, 22 ½, 25)

Calories - No totals

Great workout - more PRs on deads and pull down and could have gone heavier but the lack of grip killed me.

nice NEW NICKNAME FOR THE FELLOW REDHEAD ... WOOT WOOT...

OK, it's time to be straight about something and I apologise in advance for whining when so many other people have more to worry about than I do.

First of all, I didn't cheat last night and I am now officially 21 days alcohol free - which is great because I went to a bar on two occasions and drank soda, lime and angostura bitters.

Then this morning I put on my suit pants that I haven't worn for a couple of months and they're weren't tight, in fact, comfortable.

My Finance boss asked me if I had lost weight.

A colleague said I looked great, skin glowing and shaping up.

I read all the nice things you gals said about my pics.

My other colleague I was travelling with finished an awkward conversation with his wife on the cell and then looked sheepishly at me, laughed and said that his wife was intimidated that he was with me today as I am smart and attractive. She picked him up from the airport dressed to the nines and was trying really hard to smile at me but it didn't quite work.

So anyone else would go home and be very pleased with themselves. Not me. In fact, if anything is going to send me jumping head first into a vat of chocolate ice cream with a bacon double cheeseburger in one hand and a bottle of Grey Goose in the other, it's a day like today.

And Nelms and IP are reading this and getting worried :worried:

I don't want to be noticed. I don't want to different from the other 90% of overweight people. I don't want women hating me because they think their husbands want me. I want to melt into the background. If I am ordinary then I won't be persecuted or bullied or hated.

This is the sole reason why I have not made more progress because as soon as OTHERS see changes and comment on them, I just turn around and sabotage everything I've done.

After all that, I actually have not eaten today. If I eat something, even healthy, I'm afraid I'll flip the switch and end up chugging maple syrup straight from the bottle and order take out pizza, eat half then spray the rest with oven cleaner (both things I have done before).

So, it's all out there now.

Mermie, PM me your phone number, please. :rose:

And I'm very, very proud of you for writing what you just wrote. Let's talk. :)

Hey girl... I know how you feel! You need to look at this is this is for you... Nobody else. You have to let people deal with their insecurities and you have to learn that you are good enough to accept compliments. You need to start looking in the mirror and talking to yourself with positive stuff. Put quotes on your mirror and say them out loud. The more you say good stuff about yourself and to yourself the sooner it will help you to begin changing your mind process. This is not just about looking good remember, this is about health!!! This is about you living a healthy lifestyle... people don't have the discipline to do such a thing and those that do they feel threatened by you. I feel REALLY awkward when people would compliment me for a long time... until I started giving myself credit first. It's hard to take compliments from other's if you don't already tell yourself that you look good and feel great. Someone called you hot on here and you had problems accepting a compliment that is typed to you, not even told to your face. The best thing to do is say thank you and pat yourself on the back! You are doing a great job and your health, your fiance, and future family will all benefit from your choices that you make in life. This is where you start working on your self-esteem and throw out the food! The food is not going to help you at all.... It's only going to make you feel like a bloated moose (Been there). That's not the outlet... Listen to some music, get yourself some books on self-esteem, Oxygen Mag, and surround yourself with positive things to help you adjust! You need to create a solid goal. So you keep your mind focused on the goal and less on the speed bumps you will hit. Then when you reach the goal you congratulate yourself, and have a new one replace the old one. Keep changing for the better. You can do it, we're all here to support you!!!

(*looking over glasses, hands on hips, finger pointed, taps foot*)

Don't make me come over there!

You stop that! Her insecurities are HERS to deal with not yours -so give 'em back to her. If she has trust issues with her husband - that's her problem.

I agree with every single word that Treilin said. You are doing this for you, your family and your future and piss on what everybody else thinks.

I've always had a hard time taking compliments but no problem giving them. People are complimenting you because they see the positive changes that you are making.

The people that make a fuss are the ones who WISH they had the courage and strength that you are showing and/or they now feel inferior. You are proving that it CAN be done and making all of their excuses null and void.

And don't even think about binging on anything other than water and maybe popcorn (no butter or salt)! - you're better than that and you know it.

You are a beautiful creation.
You are worth the effort.
You are worthy of being loved.
You are NOT alone. :rose:

Mermaid, I hate to hear you feel that way. :(
You 've worked hard to earn the body you've acquired and there should be no shame in that, or apologies.
As long as you're not out there flirting with every tom, dick and harry and other ladies hubbies.... FAHGETTABOUTDIT!! Don't worry about others' insecurities. You are living a healthy lifestyle and reaping the benefits. You ARE a Positive Role model for others. ITS A GOOOOD THING! A GOOOOOOOOOODDD THING!! OK??? GET IT??

I am proud of you, keep up the great eating and workouts!
I'm gonna be watchin u girlie! ;)

Much Love,

don't forget as well it is HEALTHY for you, and that is what counts. Nothing else, no matter what people say or don't say. You are doing this for you, and just think how much healthier you will be in the long run!

Those who love...

Those that don't... :finger:

:rose:

"They're not thinking about you." ;)

(You make me proud. I passed along your message to IP.) :)

(((HUGS))) Don't forget - POSITIVE, POSITIVE, POSITIVE!!!!!!!!!!

Miss you girl...keep that head of yours held high and be proud!!

TO BE HAPPY and after that binge, very emotional at that & heart wrenching b/c you forsake your self worth,. WHICH IS VERY VALUABLE to you … and although satisfying while doing it, hoarding it down until you feel ike you’re going to explode … has left you feeling like crap, but GUESS WHAT ... it was a lesson.. you learned something about yourself.. you took a STEP in the right direction!! To err is human, you are human, albeit a merwoman, but this is life honey ... it's yours, you can bitch, complain, do something about it BUT NEVER ... NEVER EVER settle for less and you will NEVER be ordinary ...

Read Velvett's sig ... and just know ... You are loved... it's YOU that need to love youself back

and I for one, along with all these people, some you have never met, some you have, will help you :rose:

Happy Fuggin Monday danngit!!! It's a new day ...

Mermaid...

There will always be haters.

There will always be supporters(yep, you are included)

Don't let the haters stop you. How do YOU feel when you look at yourself? How would you feel if you blended in? The beauty of the world is that we are all so different. Life would be boring as fark if we were all the same.

Enjoy being different. :) And if you want to blend in, just blend in with us on EF. ;)

{{{HUGS}}}

Awww sweetie, I may be a little late but I am so sorry to hear that you feel that way!!! Especially after seeing those GREAT pictures... this quote is for you hun "The beauties of the world are best seen by those who strive to reach them." Keep your head up girl and stick with what your doing... and like everyone else said there will always be haters (Trust me I always get the crap too, even from my own family) Happy Monday to ya girl!!!

Y'know it's funny, I will be the total opposite when I get in good shape.
I totally would want (being honest here, don't be hatin') every dude lookin at me and thinking "man she is hot"... I would want to be noticed, by any and all.
That's just me though. :lmao:

That's what I like another day of food logging, and some hard core legs!!!! Great Job!

I CANNOT believe I didn't think about this .... They are also called "FOOD FITS" ... or "drink" fits to each her own

they suck

they are UGLY

and can be bad

everyone has them

:)

Rock on .. & keep on fighting :)

You WILL keep ing getting back up .. that's the best past of falling down sometimes... :rose:

Glad to see you overcame it mermie, and are back on track!

Remember, the main reason to be doing this is for your health. Screw all the people who try to bring you down. So what if you getting in shape makes them insecure? That's their own problem. The sooner they deal with it, the better their lives will be. If they never deal with it, so what?? Let them drown in their own insecurities. Just tell 'em to :finger:

Besides, as FBC said. Just blend in with us here... ;)

Luv ya hun! Keep your head up and be strong.

Ok, here they are. The first pics were taken on December 30, 2005, the second set April 8, 2006 and the third set, today, May 7, 2006. I didn't really clean up my diet until 19 days ago, after my Easter "celebration" so the third set of pics really demonstrate a 3 week comparison span.

Progress since December is more noticeable though lately I think it can be fair to say that my a$$ has certainly tightened up.

I'm looking forward to the next three weeks and seeing what else I can do - I'll post up some more at the end of May

I know exactly what you mean! I've experienced this a lot, when you cram so much crap into your mouth without even thinking about what you're doing until afterwards.

But Monday was the opposite, I was too afraid to eat for fear of a food fit! So I ate nothing. I don't know what is worse :worried:

(But that still makes me alcohol free ;) )

Uneventful day, busy at work. Very hungry and very tired so I'm going to bed now.

OK, after looking at everyone's pics, I have decided that I would the following body:

Badgergrl's arms
Scorpio's chest
Bunny's lats
IP's abs
Miss 24k's quads
sbt's calves

Yup, a pretty darn good bod there I think ;)

Just dreamin'

Oh Treil, I wasn't discriminating against anyone else, I was being silly as usual. It goes with the territory for me this week, struggling to accept me for who I am. Looking at everyone's pics really helps me though - I am amazed at how different we all are yet we are all beautiful in our own way. Your latest quote in your log is a perfect example of that and I really needed to read that this morning :)

Off to the gym - AM cardio.

Mermaid is tired and overworked! Just got home 8pm, argued with boss this afternoon, will have to work this weekend. I'm going to try and wangle working from home tomorrow and then I might be able to get some decent gym time too.

Great job on the diet and morning cardio!! I am so sorry to hear that your job is overworking you!! You definitely need some R&R!! Please take care of yourself and keep those positive thoughts flowing through that beautiful mer-head!! :bigkiss:

Hey, Hunny! Hoping the "budget thing" is on track for you!

...and is that ALL I can contribute is BOOBS!?!?!?!? :lmao:

You are one special lady! :rose:

Hey, it's 10:17 PM here, and I'm wanting to sleep so I can DRAG MY ASS out of bed in the AM to do some cardio and maybe legs.....

Well, I managed to pull a home stay work day and then spent most of it catching up on everyone's log - I just couldn't concentrate on those bloody spreadsheets :xeye: so I'll need to do it over the weekend.

I went back to the gym at lunchtime and lifted. Seeing as the chest is abit stronger now, I thought I'd try some push ups. I'm usually a beginner pusher upper - 90' angle on the knees (sad) but tried the 45' and pushed them out like nothing. Very cool. I tried a full (toes) push up after my sets and managed one pathetic attempt and then I was extremely embarrassed as the only guy in the weights area was watching me and turned his head and chuckled - the idiot forgot I could see him in the mirror. Never mind, I'll get there.

Very hungry and fantasizing about sugary stuff. Going to have meal 5 right now, then I may need some nuts or something before bed (and not included in macros).

Great Job Mermaid...don't get so down on yourself about the pushups. There are not a lot of woman and, even some men, that can do full pushups!! YOU WILL GET THERE!!! You are getting stronger (even you said that!!)

You are doing amazing and I am so proud of you!! Kudos to you woman!! Reach around and give yourself a great BIG hug from me

I really appreciate that today

Aww... don't worry about your push ups hun those are quite tough... I always do them on an incline bench myself :) So you aren't alone!! Anyways good morning (oh no wait think its night there hehe ;) )

Mermie - I can't even do 1 regular pushup. :sulk:

Don't worry about it, when I tried to do one pull up I was literally screaming and grunting in the gym, I didn't care the point is YOU DID IT! Good for you, I am proud of you!

Thanks for the encouragement about pushups. I think I've caught some of IP's determination to just get that last rep/exercise that fails you :)

Day 26 Saturday 13 May 2006

Meal 2 - 1 cup whites, 1 yolk, 2 slices rye bread

Meal 4 - 4oz turkey, ½ cup large vegetarian beans
Meal 5 - 3 scoop whey, 1 scoop maltodextrin; then later 1oz almonds

AM Cardio – 1 hour circuit, 15 mins each; bike, step mill, treadmill, elliptical - all on random profile

Upped the carbs a little today as I hit it hard with cardio and then legs later this afternoon. I needed to have a nap; this added intensity is wearing me out. Food still clean, no alcohol cravings at all (?!), just the usual sugar thing mid afternoon.

YOU GO GURL!!! Great job on getting that last rep/exercise ;) You are doing fantastic.

I think she makes protein pancakes nelmsjer!

An hour of cardio? I think I woulda passed out around the 35 minute mark. :worried:

Now hand over that pancake..... :velvett: :velvett:

nelmsjer said:
Hmmm....my post didn't go through earlier...

Where is the protein for your breakfast? In the pancake?

Similar to what I made you, but improving all the time (reduced oats, added banana). Wanted to add a banana because the additional nutrients helped my overall nutrient macro for the day:

1/4 cup raw oats
1/2 cup egg whites
1/2 serving Pure Protein (whey powder)
1 extra small banana (they're called "ladyfingers" in Australia)

273 cals P:32g C:34g F:2g Fiber:4g

Blend and cook like a regular pancake :p

IP - Thanks! Read below....

SBT - OK, as weekends go. I see you're still awake! Hope yours is great :)

Q-Tip - Managed to get through the hour - but paying for it today!!!

Day 27 Sunday 14 May 2006
Meal 1 - 3 scoop whey, 2 slices rye bread, 1 banana, 1 tbsp almond butter
Meal 2 - 1 cup tuna, ½ avocado, ½ tbsp mayonnaise
Meal 3 - 4oz turkey, ½ sweet potato
Meal 4 - 3 scoop whey, 1 scoop maltodextrin
Meal 5 - 1oz almonds

No cardio

Stiff legged dead lifts 5x7 (20, 30, 40, 50, 55 PRs – woo hoo )
Weight assisted pull-ups 3x5 – ugh
Pull down 2x7 (40,42 ½ )
Bench 5x7 (25, 30, 32 ½, 35, 40 for 5 PRs – woo hoo)
Flat bench flyes 3x8 (7 ½ ,8, 9)
Rear delt rows 5x7 (15, 17 ½, 20, 22 ½, 25)

Calories - 1579 cals
Protein - 152g 39%
Carbs - 127g 30%
Fat - 56g 31%
Fibre - 21g

So, I hit some serious PRs for me. I know what you mean now IP, it's addicting - I just want to hit higher everytime I go. Now I'm worried because I'm supposed to be cutting but I'm getting stronger?! Does that mean I'm eating too many cals for cutting? My shape is most definitely improving - more defined but still covered by a thick layer of fat. Progress not quick enough - aaaarrrrgh!!!!

Patience.

I'm SOOOO excited for you!

You aren't eating too many calories for cutting. Keep doing what you're doing. Cardio 5-6 days...lifting 3-4. Keep paying attention to diet. You're on your way!

I imagine you will continue to make small strength improvements for the next 4-6 weeks. You are going to need some microloading techniques VERY soon, though! Start taking the ankle weights to the gym. :)

28 days alcohol free!!!!!!!!!!!!

:elephant: :elephant: :elephant: :elephant: :elephant: :elephant: :elephant: :elephant: :elephant: :elephant: :elephant: :elephant:

I haven't been dry for this long since I had a kidney infection when I was 19 - that was 17 years ago. Very proud of myself indeed - so I rewarded with a chocolate bar :p

Day 28 Monday 16 May 2006
Meal 1 - 1 cup whites, 1 yolk; 1 banana
Meal 2 - 1 apple, 1oz almonds
Meal 3 - 4oz chicken breast, ½ cup chilli beans, ½ avocado

First, congrats on your dry spell! That's GREAT!

Also, *Bunny* has this in her thread:

Be who you are and say what you feel
because those who mind don't matter
and those who matter don't mind.
-Dr. Seuss-

Couldn't have said it better, myself. ;)

Congrats on staying alcohol free, Mermaid! And HUGE congrats on the personal bests! :elephant: WOOHOO! ;)

I wanted to tell you...I cried when I read what you wrote in my journal. I have had skin problems for so many years(read: ~13) and your comment really hit home. No one has ever said that to me...I had the biggest smile and the hugest tears streaming down my face.

Must stop typing about this...tearing up again...

I haven't been dry for this long since I had a kidney infection when I was 19 - that was 17 years ago. Very proud of myself indeed - so I rewarded with a chocolate bar :p

Awesome job, mmmmmmmmm chocolate, your doing GREAT!

My only suggestion ... keep your GOALS in mind, your #1 priority ... i.e. PRs are great, VERY addicting, but again another # than can crush you when you feel you didn't 'hit' it .. or missed it ... or something was off ... then you get all down, pissy, and that dang "F" word pops up ... (failure) ... Be SURE to keep everything in perspective as to what you are trying to accomplish ...

On the No Booze? Congrats Merm ... that is awesome :rose:

Nelms, I had read Bunny's entry re: Dr Seuss and had planned to add to my sig as it is probably the most pertinent quote I've seen yet

Arms tonight, my weakest area. I hate training biceps so much but it helps to have P pushing me and helping with the last rep. Sugar craving out the wazoo. My work life is sucking big time again but primarily because I am too damn sensitive for my own good. I'm not very good at playing with the big boys because I just hate the way they treat people.

Arm day is my favorite!!!! I love working Biceps... Probably because the guys always look at me like is she for real... It's great.. You just have to really focus on the muscle to feel it's burn. I always think of punching someone's lights out and it works especially well when you have a person in the gym you can look at or despise!!! That one lady helped me out on leg day when I was on teh leg press. I acted like I was kicking her :)

Yet, you continue to do it and do well at it. :)

Just vent all that frustration out in the gym. Nothing like a good sweat session to get out some aggression.

You always have the best avis...I am really loving the current one! Where do you find these photos?

Have a good Wednesday, miss!

OMG 29 days!!!... see.. its not that hard!!!! IM SO PROUD!!!!!!!!This is really great news !!!

hehehe can ya hear me now? ;)

Every time I do my cardio I have to listen to Ricky Martin's Cup of Life. I can be drudging along trying SO HARD to keep the HR up and when this comes on - IT'S ON!!!!

...and when you feel the heat, the world is at your feet
No one can hold you down if you really want it.....
Just steal your destiny, right from the hands of fate
Reach for the cup of life 'cause your name is on it....
Do you really want it...(YEAH!!!)
Do you really want it...(YEAH!!!)

If you have an iPod or can dl music on to a CD.....GET THIS SONG!!!!

Treil - Great idea, I'll just think about my bosses to get enough anger to push out that last rep!

FBC - You know, the more I look, the more I find pictures of mer-people, many quite erotic. Though you know, not that bad, no mer-people porn, after all, we don't have "love bits" like humans do.

Aries - Thanks!

Q - I will NOT food fit (and didn't, not today anyway) ;) The cappucino was as bad as it got, then I felt sick.

SBT - Thanks girl! :)

Scorp - I'm thinking of breaking out the credit card and getting myself an ipod this weekend. The gym music is just shite, I can't stand it anymore. And then I will dl Ricky!

I have run out of food and need to go shopping. No weights again as my massage lady offered me a very cheap 90 minute deal so I took her up on it. It was pure bliss and welcome right now. My body is so exhausted, I literally drag my feet to the gym for AM cardio and then can't get it together for the rest of the day. Almost 7.30pm and I have to go to bed.

Anyway, having a personal day tomorrow, going to have the grey covered up and hit the gym twice.

TGIF tomorrow.

Yeah I told my one client she had to drop her's also.... She drinks 5 in the a.m.!!! So try coffee, splenda, with the sugar free coffee flavorings added in. You can even make it a frappucino by adding ice!
