Liver specialist (of sorts) please help !!!

sorry to hear this, hopefully everything turns out ok bro. and we're all bros and sis's here bro, bring up whatever you like, i will not flame, it's a forum, forums will always get a little offtopic. i post my bloodwork and medical shit here to see if anyone sees anything outta spec or getting outta spec or someting i could do to change it. all my liver values appear to be pushing the threshold of the upper limit. but seeing this post just made me realize nothing's going on and having values like this would signify. good luck brother

Hey buddy, I hope the best for her and a speedy recovery as well. Awesome post my man. Never be afraid to post anything like this on the board. If anybody can lend any advice then it is well worth it IMO. Stay by her side and let her know how much you care about her, and let her know that you are there for her.

The ALK PHOS is usually seen in clinical settings as an indicator of bone disorders, hypothyroidism, or liver disorders (or during pregnancy).
The two that are worrysome are the CRP and ALT, both way too high......CRP is the one indicated in cancer, not really ALK PHOS

The high ALK PHOS freaks me out as it can be an indicator of a cancer somewhere. Overall it looks like a hepatitus a lot though. Does she drink and I mean like a fifth a day? This is pretty serious.1777 ALT is like WOW! The 207 bilirubin too! Is she jaundiced? I would tyhink she would have to be.

She was diagnosed with a condition called PSE (primary sclerosing cholangitis) about 5 years ago, which was a result of suffering for many years with severe ulcerative colitis. Luckily, she has been really well since then with no symptoms from either illness. She became severely jaundice a couple of weeks ago and has rapidly deteriorated. The docs think there's something else happening alongside the PSE, as its unusual to see the levels rise so quickly. She rarely drinks, although with the run up to Christmas she probably had slightly more alcohol than what she usually would, which is pretty much next to nothing.

Makes sense now.
This is an autoimmune disease of the liver/gall bladder in which the patient will get episodes of cholangitis and biliary scaring and obstruction. Patients with this disease tend to cirrhosis or cholangiocarcinoma (cancer).
Autoimmune hepatitis often coexists with this condition, adding to the elevated levels seen in your sister.

I really hate to be the bringer of bad news brother, but the only real treatment of any worth for this disease is liver transplant. She needs her name on that list ASAP. Corticos (common frontline therapy in autoimmune disease) just doesnt do anything in this disease.

Yeah I knew about the bone disorder in high Alk Phos. The Alk Phos was indicated in types of cancer in a med diagnostic book I have. I was worried about a 189 ALT once and the doc laughed at me. when I saw 1777ALT I was like whoa man! The way high bolirubin also a sign of severe liver stress or a blocked Bile duct. The high Platlete count is weird too.

Have they tested her for Hep C and also HIV? HIV can attack the liver very quickly in some cases.
There is something in her body which is causing the sudden deterioration. Push the docs do all possible tests...Don't let them sit on one thing at a time.

I wish her all the best and hope that it's something reversible with medication and time..

Take care

I wish your sister and your family the best. I'll keep her in my prayers. Just keep up with those doctor appointments and make sure she does everything they tell her to. Having a brother like you that care so much probably makes this better for her. Good luck to both of you. If you ever need to talk, we are all here for you. These doors on elite are open to all our brothers and sisters in time of need.
