lats got all huge outta nowhere!

Same thing happened to me when I started deads...started seeing results within weeks....can't wait to start them again.

to be honest I don't see the point in doing regular deadlifts in training. I max out on them once a month or every 2 montsh to see where my strength is. And I always get stronger without me doing them.

It also takes me a good 3 days for my CNS to recover from them even if I'm not sore. If I did them in my training I would be overtrained very quickly, especially with the amount of olympic lifts and squats I do. There are much better exercises than it for targeting the posterior chain and back muscles.

I do semi stiff legged deadlifts, rows, olympic lifts and chins, and my whole back and posterior chain is hardly lacking.

I'd post before and after, but.... don't have any. I do have a before-before pic, however.

this picture is me from when I was maybe 15 and about 300 lbs.

ah man. so long ago. but now I'm 200 and muscular, as in I no longer look like I want a twinkie, but I look like I'll kick your ass.

I owe you guys a lot

My deadlift 1RM went from 225 to 315 in one month, and then 315 to 405 in another month later. Yep it only took 3 months of training to do that without even doing any regular deadlifts in my training. I'll be up to 500lbs within another month or two - and not even one year of proper training under my belt ;)

If my deadlift can go up without doing it, then what's the point of doing em? My training obviously works all the muscles used in the deadlift so there is no point in walking over a beaten road.

youre getting too cocky, what works for you may not work for everyone else. You mentioned you competed when you were a teen, muscle memory works, very few untrained individuals will have 405 deadlift in 3 months. Deadlift is a natural exercise for the body utilizing a lot of muscle groups and I really believe it adds back thickness, me and my training partner grew a lot after introducing it. No one argues there are different ways to increase it, including not doing it but instead strengtheting squat muscles, but many people here are bodybuilders who do not do olympic lifts or various specific-weak-muscle-focusing-powerlifting exercises, so deadlift is the optimal choice for them.

I'm way stronger and bigger than I was as a teen. I weighed 160-170 as a Teen, I weigh 194 now. Me thinks muscle memory is over now, in fact muscle memory was all done about 3 months after I started training again. This is my 5th month of proper training, or about 8 months if you count the bodyweight stuff and 25lb dumbells I used at home.

Cocky or not I'lll see you guys at a 600 lb deadlift by Christmas :o

CoolColJ: No offence man, but your a bit too cocky considering how your body looks. I've read most of the threads where you praise your training and abilities BUT I've also seen your before and afters, and let me tell you, from a body builder's perspective your body DOESN'T look worth much, off-season condition or not. And as you probably know, having competed as a teen doesn't mean crap. Most teen competitors look like they hardly even work out! Maybe you're gifted strength wise, but size and shape? Forget it...you'd look totally different if you had any talent in those areas.
