Lat question - Spatts/Hannibal, etc...

Spatts> I have heard you mention that when you work your abs and/or tri's that you work them in the same plane as you use them.
What are some ways to work lats in the same plane as you use them in a PL bench-press? Or is there?

I have always had a hard time isolating and hitting my lats at all.

Thanks,
Joker

Well, if you don't mind, I'll take a stab at this since I train with 'em, and I don't think they're online.

Lat work in the bench plane:

Close-grip, reverse grip, lat pulldowns

Chest supported rows

Barbell rows, with spatts' description:

Next we did lats. For this, I used barbell rows. I like to keep these as close to the bench plane as possible. I begin upright, arch the back, and descend to where I can comfortably hold the bar and still hold an arch, tight traps, shoulders back, head up, chest up, etc...just like you'd set up to bench. Then row to the sternum, just like benching. I also use a reverse (underhanded) grip on these, as I feel it in my lats more. I used 133 pounds for 4 sets of 8 on these.

And something we rig up at the gym called a Corner/T-Bar Row

Hope that helps...

Project> Thanks ma. Of course you can take a stab at it. Like you said, you work out with them.

Got this all cut-n-pasted. I try them all and see which ones I feel the most. Except for the lat pull-downs. Like I said, I have always had a hard time hitting my lats, and pull-downs were not very effective for me. But the rest looks great.

Karma at ya,

One question, what is Spatts using to hold onto in that video? I think I could rig som, ething like that up in my garage.

That's the bar from the pulley machine. We just take it off, flip it over, and center it under the barbell.

Lacking that, I'm sure you could figure out something...

...a towel works nicely too. :)

The incline bench rows that corn mentioned, and the chest supported rows project mentioned are the same thing, I believe. You can also use this position to superset kelso shrugs:

Chest Supported Row/Kelso Shrug

Here's the barbell row Project mentioned...reverse grip, narrow, pulled into sternum with arms close to body. If you turn it upside down, it looks just like a bench press. :)

Many thanks all. Everything is cut-n-pasted and downloaded. Can't wait until next week to try them.

Thanks again,
Joker
