just hurt my arm...

Just getting through life

Got home from the gym an hour ago and have been icing my arm. I was deadlifting.

It's back day and I started with deads. Worked my way up to 455 all raw and did 6 reps. Felt good. Went to 495 and one repped with belt. Went for 535 with belt. 525 is PR. 535 went up but I did not lock out. At the top something pulled in my tricep and /or lat. I put weight down... kinda heavy. Rested a bit then tried pullups. Not happening! Hurt like hell so I went home.

I've been icing for an hour. Whole area is swollen and my elbow has started to throb. Wife is a nurse. She says it's a pull or minor tear. Nothing serious. That bastard is throbbing though.

Boo hoo... woe is me. Better not hurt my squats on Thursday and Shoulder/Core is Friday. I want to try the Overhead Press with a power leg push from following Scotsmans threads.

Hope you get better bro!

That sucks man. Rest, ice, and anti-inflammatories should help. Hopefully it's only a pull and not a tear.

That's my fear. I'm watching for the black and blue if it's a tear. It is what it is though.

I figured out what I think caused it. I was a little off balance on the bar... not quite centered on it. I though of moving but was psyched for the lift and thought "f' it". I could feel my right arm compensating from the moment it left the floor.

Update... the top arm and lat where my armpit is in the back is black and blue today but not too much. I can move the arm but moves overhead hurt and lifting even a server with it hurts. Guess I do have a small tear.

Either way .... squats tomorrow night and we'll see about shoulders/core on Friday when we get there. ( Yeah "we"... me and the mouse in my pocket)

Nice pulls. I would take it easy though. Why risk hurting yourself more. Maybe deload and let it heal. Good luck.

Thannks Southern. Now that it turned black and blue indicating a tear instead of pull, I have to rest it.

I will do light high rep squats to warm up ( 135x20, 225x15, 315x12) then heavy squats up to 495 or 515 ( might try 525 if it feels good) , leg press, extensions, leg curl, toe raises tonight. I ussually do some 50rep ball crunch sets after legs for a second ab day each week.

I will probably skip shoulders tomorrow and just do a full ab workout then make adjustments for the next couple weeks based on how it feels.

I'm pissed at myself because I think I caused it by being unbalanced on the bar. Tuesday is ussually leg day and Thursday is back day for me. Wonder if going heavy the day before on Chest/Bis had any effect on the pull. I just felt like doing back on Tuesday. Ah... 20:20 hindsight is a wonderful thing! Live and learn I guess.

Ahh... it's a suckfest being injured. Leg day was fine last week... stopped at 1 repping 495... just wasn't into going for more. I skipped shoulder work on Friday and did not do "sticks and stones" on Saturday with my boys. I did light chest today. Gonna play it light except for legs for a couple weeks on chest/ arms/ shoulders and no back work except hypers while my lat heals.

That sucks. At least you are able to train your legs hard. 495 for a single is sick with any kind of tear.

I almost had a mishap today pulling. I was on my work set of five and the buckle of my belt shot across the gym on my third rep. The belt dropped to the ground and I managed to pull the fourth rep without the belt. That could of gotten ugly because I was in true 5RM territory and shit like that kind of throws off your groove. I have a brand new 14mm leather belt, but it binds and digs into my ribs on pulls making it hard to lock out. I think I am gonna buy the new Spud Inc triple ply deadlift belt at EliteFTS. I really like soft belts for pulling and this one looks to be put together well.
