1 warm up set, 3 work sets, and 2 burnout sets. Yowch.

It's one of those days when even walking to the bathroom is fraught with danger of your legs just refusing to hold you up--I'm sure you all know the kind.

I am loving it. I should do this more often. :)

JC

wow thats a lotta reps..it feels funny the next couple days for me after high rep squats...my knees always buckle when im walking. lol

Hey Night Fly how's it going?!?!?!?!?

Rockin' the 275# DLs for warmups by now I bet!

Yeah I was a funny sight in the gym right afterwards. And putting on my pants in the locker room :).

I was walking around looking like I was trying to get rid of a permanent wedgie.

My lower back was messed up too, I had to lay on a bench with my feet up between sets.

But once you get under that bar all those piddling things like back spasms just seem to disappear from my mind..funny, squats.

I must admit I have been sort of neglecting squats and my legs in general from my routine and I am glad to be back.

Woo hoo!

JC

I'm cringing just thinking about being under the bar for that many reps...
Way to go man.. enjoy walking like a cowboy for the next couple of days.
Thanks
Ryan

how heavy were you going whne you did that many reps. A lot of times when I go lighter I dont go to complete failure, or if I am doing something like pullups I sort of pre exaust by starting out with a few sets of 10 then seeing what I can do after that.

Actually I did not go to failure. Don't laugh like I said I have been neglecting squats so this was kind of a first time back type of w/o

w.u.-10x135
work 1-12x225
work 2-12x245
work 3-6x275 (just short of failure I'd say--form was pretty bad on this one)
burnout 1-21x135
burnout 2-12x185

I surprised myself on the burnouts, kind of underestimated the weight it would take to exhaust me. I was thinking 20 would be really hard on the first one, did 21, upped the weight thinking 8-10 would be nice, did 12.

I think next time for a burnout I will try the second weight for 20.

I think I would be happy if I could get 3 sets of 275 for 12.

JC

Rep speed I'd say was about one every 3-5 secs or so--must admit it's hard to go slow with 135 when you just had 275 on your back!

Lots of reps bro!!! Here is a sample of a routine I used to do when I could still squat. We used high reps in the begining and low in the end, our own form of periodization.

We did two to five sets each week and stuck with the same amount of reps and weight on that week except on the last week, each week we would knock off 5 reps. Ill give you an example of how we did it and the weights I used over the few weeks.

Week 1- 2 sets of 20(I used 225lbs)
Week 2- 2 sets of 15(I used 250lbs)
Week 3- 3 sets of 10(I used 275lbs)
Week 4- 5 sets of 5 (I used 300, 310, 320, 330, and 315)
Week 5- 2 sets of 20(I used 265lbs)
Week 6- 2 sets of 15(I used 285lbs)
Week 7- 3 sets of 10(I used 305lbs)
Week 8- 5 sets of 5(I used 320, 330, 350, 365, and 340)

Looks weird but it worked very well for me on size and strength. Just in case anyone was looking for some squatting ideas. Be sure to work that lower back adequately enough so you dont fuck it up like I did.

Yeah don't worry, I deadlift 4 days after I squat and vice versa. DL=AR for legs, Squat=AR for lower back.

Works great so far.

Thanks for the idea.

It's going great! How about you?

Well, not quite...but...I did 315 for a double last week. I think I had more in me, though.

I have that same problem with my lower back. It's gotten really bad here lately. I have to stretch in between each set...it's pretty pitiful. It hurts bad, too....like a balled up muscle just aching...

Icy Hot helps it for a few sets...and then I have to reapply. Definitely going to start doing the heat/ice thing...I can't afford to visit my chiropractor anymore....lol.

Too bad you don't know any big strong guys with very strong hands...:)

be careful with the topical balms. the ones with salicyclic acid (aspirin) in them can inhibit prostaglandins like any NSAIDS. And prostaglandins are essential to muscle recovery.

It's funny, my back never bothers me during dLs, just squats. go figure.

I'm shootin' for a DL PR in about 4 days--405. I got 385 several weeks ago so I should be alright.

Take care of that back (or better yet have bfold take care of it),

Why? did a big black guy named leroy have your knees behind your ears?

Good going!

crane the stairs at your house will kill. Next time try doing all set for 20 reps and seee how far you get j/k good progress hopefuly you can still get in and out of your car okay...

high reps are the way to go for huge quality legs. set a tough goal of 20 reps for yourself and shatter it! 225 maybe?

Yeah I was thinking 225 or even 245.

You're talking about breathing squats right? Where if you start to fail you sit there and breathe until you can do another one, etc. to 20?

Just wondering, for a w/o like that what does the warm up look like? Like maybe

135 X 20,

225/245 X 20,

done with squats?

JC

in 20 rep breathing squats you pause at the top with the bar still on your sholders and take as many deap breaths needs (3-4 usually) to push out one more rep until you get to 20

Its and awesome w/o and really test your mental toughness..

I worked up to 275 for 20 a few months ago before taking a break from the routine

My goal is to get to 1.5Xbw for 20 reps.. hopefully i'll loose some more bf to make that goal easier since im 245# right now!..

I will def. have to try that. I also think this would be an awesome addition to the middle of any periodization routines for football players.
