JL's Lifting Journal

Trained some jiu jitsu today. We did about 100 push ups and about 100 burpees.
We did some drills like hip tosses and throws. After about 45 mins of that we did full out sparring or "rolling" as we call it in jiu jitsu. After that class my body needs some recovery.

I felt good and strong today from all the squatting I've been doing. It's amazing how well squats carry over into sports. Even though jiu jitsu isn't about strength it sure couldn't hurt.

dammm 100 burpees that's gotta be damn hard. i'm sure your strength will skyrocket over the next few weeks, keep it up

Overall a great workout today. I felt great today. I'm really sore from jiu jitsu on Saturday but that went away as soon as I warmed up. Yet again I had the whole gym to myself. It's totally worth the $6 it costs to workout at this gym. Nothing beats having the whole place to yourself. I don't have to feel bad hogging the squat rack. I'm back at school next week for 3 months so I'll be using the gym there for free, so we'll see how that goes.

My squats felt really good today. My form was spot on. I hope the wieght starts rapidly going up on these. I find it strange that my squat and bench are nearly equal, yet my deadlifts are way ahead of my squats. Anyone else have a similar issue?

weighed in at 222 lbs today. My diet of chicken, steak, eggs, tuna, and shit tons of fruits and veggies is working.
Overall a good workout today. 335 deadlift felt pretty solid except for my grip. I'm debating wether to invest in some straps, or force my grip to get stronger. As for overhead press, I'm gonna add 5 lbs per week till I max out. This is def one of my weak areas.

Get your grip stronger man. You do fighting right so grip is extremely important. Plus grip strength for 335 is nothing if you work at it a little you'll have enough grip for 500 before you can even pull it!
 
We have pretty similar DL numbers.... I don't think you need to do 2 warmup sets with 135 and 225. Something like 135x5, 185x5, 225x3, 275x2 would suffice imo. I usually do something like that followed by 1 rep at 315, then go into heavier sets. Not sure what your set goal was for today, but i don't think that you need to do more than 1 set with light weight as a warmup.
 
Thanks guys.. I agree with you both. I'm gonna drop some warm up sets and work my grip.

I didn't really have a set goal for that workout, I'm just not really sure how strong I am yet. But I def found out that my grip needs work.

worked out at the school gym. I felt weak as shit and my knees were cracking and sore. I think I'm gonna gave to take a look at my technique. Maybe my knees are possibly passing over my feet?
