We already have the technology. They have been working on it for decades right here in your home state. I have been on quite a few oil shale projects in Western Colorado. Shell made me sign a 30-year confidentiality agreement before I could work there.

if i'm not mistaken, i believe our neighbors to the north have one of the largest fields on the planet. . .also, i believe the technology (with regard to economic feasibility) isn't quite there yet, right??

There's already a oil refinery operating in the U.S. producing refined oil from turkey parts. Been open for 2 years now I think and they're just now getting to the point where the process is turning a profit for them. I can post a link if anyone is interested.

It wasn't feasible financially until oil reached around $45/BBL. And yes, Canada has a drop or two of oil. They are right behind Saudi in proven reserves.
