Is this a decent deadlift weight?

3 sets of 255 for 6 reps.

I know it isn't a great lift compared to a lot of people but it sure as hell FELT heavy.

What are you guys pulling for 6 or so reps?

Around about 470 last time I checked. But normally I just pull singles with brief rests to avoid form problems.

Deadlifts are deadlifts. I'd rather see someone in the gym struggling with 135, than some half-a-fag who could easily do 400+ refuse to do them and opt for the hyper and say it does the same thing.

I do all my deadlift training in singles now though. Just like Dutch said, this makes it easier to make each rep perfect.

Kee hitting them hard and you will be up over 300 real soon.

Well, I've only been doing them for a bit over 6 months. And mostly just going low weight high reps (breathing sets with Corn's Old School Routine). This is the first time I've gone for high weight.

I was able to get 4 reps with 275 last week but decided to stick with 255 this week. I'm pretty proud of this weight considering the following factors; I'm 6'2", only done these for a couple of months, and was very weak in core lifts before starting.

I made to mistake of training like a bodybuilder early on and ignored the Olympic lifts. My spinal erectors were basically nonexistent.

Maybe I'll go for a 1 rep max in the next week or 2 after this post-vacation soreness leaves (I took off just over 2 weeks and now I'm all sore).

285.

It also depends on if you are completely disengaging and resetting between sets, or just going up and down, rocking between reps, etc...

285 huh? For how many!! I'm not gonna get beaten by some girl!!! :D

I put the bar on the ground and untense my body. 1/2 second rest, slowly retense until lifting the weight then a smooth steady pull back up.

Saw Night Fly do 250 for 14 reps without a belt or straps after doing 4 other hard events:)

Not for sure what I can do for 6...I did 405 or something for 18 a month or two back I think....

Don't worry...if you are doing deadlifts you are on the right track!!! Remember that there was a time when we all struggled with 135...one day at a time.

Don't sweat being tall...height sometimes helps with the deadlift..

Fro, don't worry about what everyone else is pulling. Since you are new to deadlifting, just be persistent and your poundages will climb. And, in comparison to the squat and bench numbers of other lifters, taller guys seem to do better in the deadlift.

Thanks for the replies. I just have no way of knowing how I'm doing and what weight I should be pulling as I'm the only person in my gym deadlifting.
