Is it possible to still build muscle and do higher reps with lighter weight?

I think everyone is different. I have a tough time building muscles and I go very heavy. I found recently, if I go heavy with high volume it works better for me. I'm toast after a workout, but I find I'm able, however slow, able to build some muscles..
Creatine, BCAA, and gutamine, I find to be excellent supplements..
 
It is really all a test on your body to see how you grow. Not how others grow. DO a peridoization cycle and see how you respond.

Try

3 months, high reps (15-20 reps)
3 months, low reps (8-12 reps)
3 months, drop sets. (12 reps, then immediately drop weight in half and reps put another 12 reps)
3 months (4-6 reps)

I guarantee you will learn the most about your body doing this phase for 1 year.

I think you said you are new to working out. This is a must for all newbies that want to truly lean about their body.
