Is homosexuality a choice or not?

This subject has come up quite a bit in political and religious dicussions.
It has been suggested by scientists that 10% of people are gay whether they know/admit it or not.

not a conscious one, no, but i do not believe its genetic, although genetic factors can play a role (testosterone levels, etc)

Scientists thought it was genetics a few years ago
They no longer do

It's all about personal choice and environment

I think you're born that way for the most part. I have two friends that I grew up with that have been gay their whole life. We had GI Joe's and Transformers, they had Ken dolls and Strawberry Shortcake dolls. We'd play football, they're playing double-dutch with the girls. Wasn't much of a surprise when they came out.

no, for some it may seem like it but for many others why would they choose to have gone through all the BS with their families, friends, etc?

My aunt had severe depression and became an alchoholic bc of it, she still won't tell my grandparents about it do to my grandpa being a strict catholic and what not and she's 40

Research suggests that the homosexual orientation is in place very early in the life cycle, possibly even before birth. It is found in about ten percent of the population, a figure which is surprisingly constant across cultures, irrespective of the different moral values and standards of a particular culture.

I would never understand why people turn gay or lesbian. But yet I respect them.
