Intro From A New Guy (Again)

Good afternoon guys, I am new to the board and I wanted to introduce myself. I posted this message on the steroid board before I realized there was a diet board. I think this forum is more fitting for me.

Age: 31
Height: 5’7”
Weight: 230
Body Fat %: TOO HIGH
Training: Off and on the past 5 years

Obviously, I need a lot of work. After doing a lot of research, I figured the best place to start was weight loss. I recently started a diet and light exercise program. When I started, I weighed 255 lbs. Two months later, I am “down” to 230 lbs. I am moving in the right direction. I would like to lose at least another 30 lbs before I even contemplate starting any type of steroids. Pretty much all of the extra weight I am carrying is in belly fat.

I am running on a treadmill four to five times a week (Usually 2-3 miles each time). I utting have a Weider Cross-Bow that a friend gave me, so I am just starting to lift weights again. My issues are I don’t really know much about weight loss and weight training. I know even less about steroids, but the more research I do on them, the more interested I am.

If anyone wanted to take the time to help out a newbie like me and offer a diet & work out regime I could follow, I would greatly appreciate it. For instance, currently, I am not taking any supplements right now. I am no where near ready to start taking steroids, but what types of supplements (diatery or other) should I start taking? What would be most beneficial for a guy in my position? There is just so much info (Good & Bad) that I don't know where to start.

Thanks for your help (and criticism!)

Unfortunately I am working on something at work otherwise I'd give you a detailed response... but I'll give you some research you can do on your own.

For a workout routine you need to head over to the weightlifting forum, and click on the training vault sticky...there is a program Rippetoe's 3x5 that is excellent for beginners (ideally beginners who are bulking, but you should see results nonetheless).

In terms of a cut, you need to find out how many calories you burn daily, then subtract 300 calories from that amount. When you plateau you can cut another 50-100 daily, when you plateau cut some more. You NEVER EVER want to cut lower than your maintenance calories, nor should you. Your metabolism will regress. There is a calculator that is good at that but I don't have the link off hand, maybe someone can post the link?

Your diet should consist of whole foods. No carbs after the early afternoon (say 3pm and adjust accordingly with how your body responds) except for pre-post workout purposes. If you can workout in the morning it's a lot better for cutting but not such a major differences that it is a dealbreaker.

There are lists of whole approved whole foods floating around if you scroll down and read some old posts. Real meat, real veggies, complex carbs (brown rice, yams, oatmeal), real fruit, etc.

You need to track your daily calories using a site like fitday.com. You don't NEED to, but as a beginner, maybe you NEED to more than you realize. It might seem like a huge hassle but once you enter the nutrition labels of the foods that you eat (and you'll find you get the same stuff from the grocery store every week so after that first week of puttign whatever ur about to cook or eat into fitday, there is very little hassle after that).

This kind of question of how to diet is asked many times and you will see some great responses if you just scroll and read other similarly titled threads.

If you have any further specific diet questions ask away, after you do some digging on your own.

And again, welcome to the forum and good luck.
