Insulin and CKD

I'm pretty experienced with CKD and working out and even AS. I've read a ton on this and tried it a few times to no avail. I'm talking about using 'slin to get into ketosis. I use it in the evening of my last carb up day (sunday) and usually inject 2-3 iu's at a time until my blood sugar is around 60. According to what I hear, when I wake up I should be in ketosis... Well I've had no luck so far. Would the ketostix be able to identify the ketones? Should I eat anything or take any supplements to insure that I get in? Mr. X, I know you've done it this way, so if you can be as specific as possible to tell me what to do, that would be great. Thanks in advance.

What you're doing is fine. You are probably in ketosis in the morning, but just aren't excreting ketones in your urine. You can get a glucometer that measures ketones in the blood and you'd know for sure. the other possibility is that your liver is dumping its glycogen after your initial 60 or below reading.. You might try testing again about 2-3 hours after you get the first reading below 60, and see if your blood sugar has gone up. I've seen mine go down to 52 and then be 84 without eating anything 2 hours later. When you bring it down fast with slin, sometimes your liver is slow to react and actually dumps its glycogen late and that is delaying it. Be very careful though. Insulin can be very dangerous. Aside from checking your blood sugar regularly after an injection it's a good idea to have dextrose tablets available in case it gets too low. Good luck.

What are the doses of slin you get up to? (i.e 10iu total?)
time frame? frequency? and type of carb up?

Mr.X
