I'm through being even a little nice

Actually girls don't like assholes, they just like made men. It just so happens that assholes have some traits of made men.
When I say made men...it could mean a few things..you are viewed as sexy by women. Why? Maybe you look like you take care of yourself. You have a certain charm. She connects with you when you talk. Etc.
It could mean you just have mastered the art of making a girl associate you with happiness, with laughing, with feeling good about herself. Also importantly, feeling COMFORTABLE.
The thing about made men..they're independent. They were made before the chick, and they're going to be made after the chick.
Well, assholes, have this same mentality..."with or without you, I'm pushing forward. I don't NEED you." But damnit they want us to need them. It really fucks with their head when they are so used to chumps begging for sex. "Let me open the door for you....HOW ABOUT SOME DICK?" Chris Rock is a very good observer.
Assholes aren't going to be as successful as true made men in the long run, because most of the time, assholes truly do not care about their women. Made men do--they treat them with respect, but they NEVER become dependent on the girl. They are their own man.

The REAL problem for the gentleman is keeping the loving woman's interest. This is the reason why nice guys tend to lose women and be alone; women like men who are unpredictable (to a degree) and slightly forceful. Women like power, or rather they like being around powerful men. And when I say power, I'm talking about the man's ability to stir an emotional response in her, good or bad. Nice guys tend to fawn over the woman or cater to her, after awhile she becomes bored and loses interest because he isn't stirring powerful emotions in her.
Assholes may be jerks, but they get emotional rises out of women, hence the jerks always getting the women over the nice guys. Humor can go a long way in stirring emotions too, even if it's at her expense. Kind acts and nice gestures rarely get the same kind of emotional responses. Women say they like nice guys because they think it's what they want, but in the end they go for the guys who get their emotions charged up.
The one thing that can make a truly nice guy more desirable is good looks, and that's only because his appearance alone gets emotional responses. A fat ugly short man who gets the door for a lady won't get a second glance, but if he is a Brad Pitt then he will get a smile and a look, and maybe more.
Emotions is the key to women.
