Seems odd the mgr would be doing this for someone hitting all their numbers. They must have had some ill will toward you before or they would have gone to bat for you. I don't get it.

Having said that speak to a human when you call in sick. It's ok to leave a VM but call back to verify they acknowledge it.

I don't think it's the manager having some personal ill will, I think the issue was going to the labor board. Management is wary of employees who are sticklers for every rule in the handbook or who appear eager to bring cases against the company. Unfortunately, as everyone else basically pointed out, companies have full authority to fire workers during the probationary period without much reason and the whole, "You're just not a good fit" excuse, while just that, is more than enough.

Traz I run a fairly large operation and have several people I deal with. The contacting the labor board and then demanding your pay via your rights determined by the labor board is a fucking giant red flag. Two thing I do not put up with are smart asses and trouble makers. You kinda put yourself in the sights with your hot headed attitude.
