I want a tattoo

So seriously what does it feel like to get a tat? Like I know everyones pain tolerance is differant, but what would you best describe it? Bee sting?? getting a needle?

Someone said it well in another forum. Think rubbing sandpaper over a sunburn. Its really kinda uncomfortable but its not just stabbing pain. I don't find that it really feels like a needle going into you but more of a burning sensation. After a while if you get a large tattoo you feel the vibration of the tattoo gun more than the needles (its typically from 3-7 needles, not just one). Its a tolerable pain but most people say that certain parts of their body hurt more than others. I've found on me (I have 13 and actually worked at a tattoo shop) that between my shoulder blades was the absolute worst, followed probably by my ribs. Your chest (not breasts - about them) and your upper under-arms are also supposed to be terrible. I've heard ankle sucks too but I found that not to be true with me at all. Lower back also for your first tattoo = kinda sucky, its a bit tender plus - its rediculously trendy.

I've got one on my belly (halfway between my hip and my navel) that was taken from a design I had made in a printmaking class (a black fish and a white fish chasing each other around a little sphere...I'd called it "The Reincarnation of Othello and Desdemona"). I wouldn't advise getting one there. It felt like they were carving into me with an X-acto knife. Way too many nerve endings there.

I'm thinking of getting a butt-topper of an Oroboros (a snake swallowing its own tail) twisted into a figure eight, on its side. (That's the symbol of eternity, or working between the worlds). I'm going to work some Celtic knotwork into it, too. It'll be stylized (prolly Art Nouveau), without the heavy inking. That seems like it would take too long and greatly increase the chance of hitting a nerve!

SoKlueless, if I were you I wouldn't get anything unless you choose it yourself and hold on to the desire for a while. I had the design I got in mind for five years before I committed to it. And I still sometimes wish I hadn't gotten it! The new one has been in mind for a couple of years, and I'll wait a couple of more before I get it inked.

Whatever you get, it should be something very meaningful because you are stuck w/ it the rest of your life. I personally don't like the heavy inking (e.g. tribal) and reality -- keep in mind something won't "stretch" poorly w/ age... (I've got a friend who got a butterfly on her breast 20 yrs ago. Now its more of a moth...:worried:)

more motivation to stay in shape right! ;) and not get them on your breast!!
