To me, it felt like having a bad sunburn and rubbing sandpaper over it.

Not piercing pain, but a constant, raw, annoying, stinging one.

Besides tolerance for pain ..... the pain level depends on two things - 1) amount of fat covering the area, the more bone there is the more painful, the more flesh there is, less painful AND 2) amount of nerve ending in that area, areas near vital organs have a lot of nerve endings, so it will be more painful

My lower back one wasn't THAT bad, even over the backbone - but once they started getting closer to my kidneys ....YIKES. OUCH.

agreed. My back wokr took a total of 8 hours. I did it in 3 sessions. After a while, you just go numb, but when they get to the sides -THAT SHIT HURTS!

I have one small tatt, took about 30 minutes to do and motherfucker did it hurt!

I have it just above the crack of my coochie, actually it is crawling OUT! hehehehehee

Sort of a warning to the few that are lucky enough to see it.

I wouldnt get one on my back only because I wouldn't be able to see it. I'm funny like that. If I am going to ornament, then I want to be able to admire.

after college i designed tatoos so i know tons of women with them.
here's why i don't have one- there's nothing i'd want on my body forever that isn't already there. there's no symbol or design that has any meaning to me, and that i know always will.
i'm not religious, or i'd consider that symbol. i already know my name and my kids names, so i never understood people getting those ON their body (it seems to be popular here, or at least amoung african american women, to get their own names on their arms), and i don't love any one particular flower enough to want a picture of it on me.
if i ever did anything, i'd get a TINY pink heart- the size of a large birthmark, in someplace unusual.

yeah, I am basically the same as you. I am not all that religous either, But I love crosses.. Other then that... What would you want forever. I am with you on the name thing too. lol
