I tried posting this in Girl Talk, but it wouldn't let me

Congrats :arty:

I have no clue what a good amount of $$$ would be to spend. My best suggestion is to find something you think she will like and work with in your means.

Question for all the ladies in the house. How much money do you think is an ideal amount to be spending on an engagement ring?

Yep, Girl Talk = ladies only forum

It would really depend on what type of stone you get & the material, ie gold, platinum, etc......It can vary widely....

i think they say one month salary.. some women are happy with something modest whereas other women want something more extravagant

I wouldn't say Congrats just yet, I still have to save the money and get a 'Yes' response. LoL.

I know the one thing she wants is a larger diamond in the middle and then two smaller ones on the side -- I kinda agree because when you put it together with a wedding band, only having one diamond can look a bit strange.

Yeah, they say a months or two months. I can't really remember. Or is it six weeks?

Anyways, that is actually a pretty good suggestion of what to work with.

Also another question while I am at it. Is it silly to propose if I am not going to be able to actually have a wedding for about 2 years?

Is 2 years an abnormally long engagement period?

the commonly accepted guideline for purchasing diamonds is two months' salary... Click here for basic info
Best of luck :rose:

Yep, 2 months salary as the common guideline was what I've heard, too. But, you don't always have to go by that. I agree with what QT said - find something you think she will like and work within your means.

Congrats (early congrats) and best wishes! :rose:
