I cannot wait until they outlaw smoking in all bars

public, etc. Fuck you Phillip Morris.

Worthless fucking habit.

Wow, dude. We've had that law for a pretty long time now. I can hardly remember bars w/ people puffin sticks.

You'll thoroughly enjoy it when the moment arrives for you in whatever backwoods state I assume you occupy.

Banned here years ago....... can actually go out and come home and not smell like an ash tray and throw away ya clothes................

I'd go so far as to say that if the no-smoking bill was universally democrat, I would become a democrat for that to pass.

As much as I hate sitting in a smokey bar and coming home with my clothes smelling and blood shot eyes............I hate uncle sam dictating to a private business even more. I understand there are still rules and regs that all business's have to adhere to.........but if a bar or club wants to advertise itself as a smoke friendly establishment......so anyone who walks in knows what the score is.........than they should be free to do that. In this day and age they may very well go out of business because most people like the smoke free environments, but that's for the private business to decide. This is absolutely a situation best left to the free market to figure out.

Shit went to effect in IL at the first of the year.

I'm a smoker, I'm okay with it.

Honestly I smoke less now when drinking because of it.

I smoke maybe 2 cigs a day, normal.....while drinking, it's a pack.

It saves me money, and my lungs a bit, I thought I would hate it, but it's not that big of a deal....

In a bar, it would be a pack each night, easy.

Now it's prolly 7 cigs per bar night.....

Here any place that serves food does not allow people to smoke.
Most people go outside to smoke on backdecks and patio's.

Last year I was in memphis we went to eat at a hotspot called " the flying suacer"
fucking place stunk like shit my eyes were on fire after just a few minutes. We had a drink and then handed the menu's back to the waitress and left to eat at a fucking TGIF down the road.

Being the law has ben passed here for almost 10 years now I forgot how bad smoke smells untill walking into the place.

its not allowed here and hasn't been for a long time

But you have to love the outfits the waitresses wear!!

The statewide ban went into effect two years ago here. Where I went to school it's 11 years ago.

Scotland passed the law a year ago and the rest of the UK went smoke free last July. Made it so much better going out to pubs.

Cheers,
Scotsman

No more smoking in alberta, or pretty much anywhere in canada in the bars.

I'm still a smoker unfortunately, but I really enjoy that I'm not walking into a haze when I go into a bar. It's a nicer scene.

I use to feel like I had to go outside to have a smoke anyways, now I don't have a choice!

yeah its been banned here in Montgomery County for some years now. Now that Im a non smoker I love it - n ot that we go out to the bars or anything but if we go to a restaurant, dont have to smell the nasty smoke.
shit I remember in HS they had a smoking lounge for us smokers. (1986) it was inside right next to the cafeteria but it was a separate room closed off by glass of course. but how fucked up is that? underage kids smoking INSIDE the high school right next to the teachers etc. hey Mr Johnson can I get a light? hahaha that was awesome. we would also step right outside the front door of the school and light up right on school property. no problem!

yeah i remember a smokers lounge in the building for the teachers.
now in michigan no tobacco can be used on school grounds by anybody...janitors can't even step out to blaze one.
if i chose to use tobacco nobody knows and i bother no one

even FRANCE has outlawed smoking in public places...i am ashamed that this second rate country is ahead of America on ANY issue.

I think there should be a vote on it at the very least then, in every jurisdiction. People who don't want their clothes reeking of smoke or leaving the bar with a headache shouldn't have to move to a state that supports the no smoking policy. Everyone needs to learn that smoking is a worthless habit, and that bars will sell more beer the less smoking there is going on in them.

Yeah I remember that. Just had to be outside.

I say let people do whatever they want.

If the bar owner wants to allow smoking, then his customers may or may not go there.

Smoking sections with good ventillation.

I could really give a fuck either way, but I think it's wrong to tell a bar owner that he can't allow smoking in his joint. Don't like it? Don't go/work there!

Hey bro, I live in Memphis, go downtown every weekend. Did you go to the saucer downtown or the one out east? I've only been to the one downtown.... some hot girls in there and working there... but it's just not my place, lots LOTS of better places to go just right around the corner on Beale st. I have a couple friends who like it alot, so I might go in there to have a few drinks with them earlier in the night, but then I'm on my way down the road.

You know it's funny, Memphis also passed the anti-smoking laws last year, and there were a few places that people coudln't do it in... but then suddenly they could again.

I think it had something to do with what hours food was served there and alot of places changed things up a bit to meet the requirements. Not sure exactly how the law was laid out.

I don't smoke, never have, never will. Seems like almost everyone does though when they are drinking. I know several people who talk about how gross it is, but yet do it when they are drunk.

And while I absolutely despise it myself, I agree with the guy who said it should still be the buisness owner's decsion. While it would be easy to say "yea, I hate that shit, they should ban it", I have to keep in mind that there are also those who feel the same way about guns... SUV's..... certain breeds of dogs.... drinking.... porn..... and we could probably go on and on until damn near everything was named. When you beg for the government to do something like this, then you are asking them to, and paving an easy road for them to take away our freedom and personal rights.

It may be something you don't care about losing now, or actually want them to take away, but eventually it will be something that you do want to keep, and that's why you gotta keep an eye on the bigger picture.

The only difference is that those other things don't pollute the air that other people (who are probably spending more money in the joint on beer because they're not smoking) have to breath. And since many states still have an extremely limited amount of smoke free places, why should the people who want to take care of themselves and not smell like an ashtray when they leave have to suffer for it? It would be ok if there was a separate containable section where smokers could go, but this usually isn't the case.

Bottom line is the more time goes on the more absurd it is that people still smoke to begin with. I could see if they at least tasted like candy or something but fuck the extremely short and mild buzz they give you isn't even worth it. Worthless. And for people who say they help them lose weight, how bout diet pills? Probably cost less money-wise and certainly health wise in the long run anyway.

Hey man we went to one outside memphis is area called " cordova" so it was the one out east ,we were there prob 2 years ago , maybe it has changed now about the smoking. It was hip spot . Lots of hot girls. I was with the wife but it did look like a singles hot spot. I think one thing was it was cold outside and the doors were closed and heat was on , that prob keep the stinking air in .

We did the beale street thing during the evening and visted the peabody hotel, sun records, then some cool bars in the evening into the night.
My wife is really more into the bluegrass jazz scene so we enjoyed some down stairs little hang outs and did bbq at a place called the rendeveou

I like memphis it has a certian charm to it everyone should atleast exp ones in their lifetime.

Hitler outlawed smoking at train stations and govt buildings, banned abestoes in residential contsruction , banned DDT from being used on crops.

Fuck that was back in the 1930's yet it took the usa 30-40 years later to finally catch up.

If smokers want a place to smoke , make them crowd into a " smoking only " establishment no windows no open vents . Fuck um no one should have to smell that smelly smoke.

I dont smoke... buty I sure as hell repsect the right of other people to do it...

and if you dont realize what an important right it is and what smoking symoblizes.. you're a naive ass fuck.

The only shitty thing about banning smoking from bars is finding out if a girl smokes. I can't stand it when a girl smokes.

girl smokes=increases your sexytime percentages at least 25%

In Vegas you can smoke inside bars if they don't serve food, or have their dining area seperated from the bar. Casino's are exempt, and allow smoking everywhere.
I work Friday nights in a bar. Takes a good shampooing to get the stench out of my hair.

Do you support gun rights too? There's no Ammendment guaranteeing your right to smoke in public - BTW.

So you means girls that smoke have higher STD rates? as much as 25% higher?

i guess that is proly true, considering that smoker gals give up the tang a lot easier (ask smurf)

either or, i'd hit it

agree! why would ANYONE enjoy sticking their tongue in a mouth that tastes like an ashtray?

My ass is cleaner than an ashtray or a smoker's mouth.

Down here smoking is banned in bars that serve food too. Prior to this I had to come home and remove all clothing in the garage until laundry day. Otherwise you throw it in the hamper and the entire house starts smell like smoke on the second day. Fuck that.

cant smoke here either

smoking at bars and restaurants has never bothered me.

as long as its not in my car/home i dont really care.

it's banned in just about every public building in California. My office building has a sign out front that says you can't smoke within 20 feet of the door. Smoking is a complete non event in my life.

gay....

that's fuckin stupid. if there is alcohol, people are going to be smoking.

thank god i don't live in NYC anymore. nothing worse than having to go outside in 20 degree weather to smoke a cigarette when you're feeling tipsy.

i only smoke when i drink, but it should be expected.

restaurants and other public places, i'm not opposed.

but bars and clubs?

while you and I consider it a worthless habit...although I do light up a few cigars a year..........some people really need it to get by in life. I'll admit that it is particularly offensive when you're trying to eat..........but in a properly ventiliated environment, I don't mind. I'm not someone that get his panties bunched up his hole at the faintest whiff of a cigarrette.........but I don't want to be inundated with it to the point my eyes are getting red. If a restaurant or bar wants to have a smoking section that they can prove is heavily ventilated..........than so what? And this banning of smoking from "any" public place is just fucking too far. If I owned a company I would absolutely provide a smoking room for people or a porch where they can go to smoke.........and I would fight ANY attempt by uncle sam to tell me that I can't provide that for my employees.

in my city you cant smoke in a bar. A BAR.

old grannies out there voting to pass a law just because they dont like the way it smells

it should be up to the business owner to determine if they allow smoking. there is this italian restaurant nearby that was completely smoke free before the smoking ban. if you went there you knew what the deal was, if you didnt like it, you went somewhere else.

Cigarettes are a worthless habit. I guarantee the people who smoke would drink more at the bar if they gave up smoking anyway. Win for everyone involved. You go to bars to drink, first and foremost. It's not like you go and order a smoke.
