I liked him and it too, but for me the movie didn't make as much sense as the book...and I am so not a natalie portman fan

No, I guess not. The only parts that I liked about the movie was Fry and his disdain for the establishment (which gets him eventually killed) and the part about how ideas and martyrs can make a resistance strong (ie ideas are bulletproof).
