How much weight does adding a belt on the deadlift add?

Went for a 1 rep max on the deadlift yesterday for the first time ever, managed 440 with the help of straps but without the use of a belt. I want a 500 lift even though i am not a powerlifter (more of a bodybuilder). I'm going to be doing some specific training in the next 6 weeks, and then retest. Is it realistic to pull 500 without a belt.
My bodyweight is between 195 - 200 and my height is about 5,11.

I think that you are asking too much of yourself if you want to add 60lbs to your deadlift in 6 weeks. You can pull 500 eventually.....but I cant see it happening in that time period.

Why do you wanna deadlift 60 more pounds if you are not a powerlifter? Sounds like a soon to be converted. Wait untill you hit that 5 mark and you see stars. Nothing like a big solid deadlift to make a person happy all week.

I know a bunch of people that feel like a belt ads a lot of weight to their deads. If you are used to deadlifting without a belt, as I am, you might not get much. I stopped using one to strengthen my back and now it almost impedes my lifting. A belt is like any other piece of equipment. If you want to get the most benefits out of it you need to train with it a little. You might be one of those people who feel 100% more confident with a belt and your lifts shoot through the roof. Good luck.

Cheers for the input.

I could have pulled more but the most that i had ever lifted previously was 400 and i did not want to risk injury. I think a realistic weight would be about 460 but i think that my form would be compromised to much.

I think your right about the 500, i think a more realistic target would be about 460. Whats the point of risking injury for the sake of a number that doesnt really mean anything.
Cheers.

Before you think about adding a belt..think about strengthening your abs and lower back. This will be the key to strengthening your deadlift...not the belt. A good belt can add weight to your dead...if you know the proper manner in which to use it for powerlifting.

50lbs in the deadlift is a lot. The difference between 405 and 455 is night and day as is the jump from 455 to 500. All kinds of weak links begin appearing.

Time and perserverence will conquer all.
