There's been at least a dozen bench polls, lets see how much the boys can squat. State your weight also.

Guy in my club did 605 i think six times. The fuckin bar was bending like a noodle.

i weigh about 200lbs and squat 450-475

Got 625lbs for 2 , but I count a squat as going ALL the way down as far as you can squat without any weight , knee wraps , or a squat suit !!!!

6'2" , 290lbs , 25yrs old.

I stick to the lighter weights and go for reps lately though no weight higher than 405

405X3 now don't know for a max. in july max was 470. 6' 210

My highest squat weight is 385, It's tougher for me 'case I'm 6'6" - it's a long way down - but im not complaining about 385, but I'd like higher though.... :p

YUM

I'm not sure because I never really do back squats. Last time I did front squats I did 310lbs. for 10 reps. The reason I do front squats instead is because I feel it more in my quads and less in my ass.

A few years ago I managed a single on just over 500, then I was 5'9" and 197lbs, I'm a lot bigger/stronger now but don't do singles anymore

501 pounds. Bodyweight 165 pounds.
17 years old i did 440 pounds, bodyweight 132 pounds.
Silly question, but how'd you get 501 on the bar? I've never seen 1/2 lb plates.

Genarr3 ,
Some people count the collars as weight , maybe he was useing those springy type deals that never fit tight !?!?

How many of you guys do maxes on what you rep to failure with ,
like max effort with 315 or 225 ??
I'm starting to think that this is a better display of effort than doing a heavy one rep !!

JD, I keep track of my strength by doing just that. I watch the rep max with 275. Only bench 370 though. Squat is embarrassing for this thread, about the same as the bench. I starting Dl and squats to balance my ass out now. Too bad my guy went to shit on me.

4 plates each side, 10-12 reps (deep). Never maxed out on squats, nor do I intend to.

...BTW, am I high, or did I read that some knucklehead said putting a weight in his backpack is the best way to squat....WTF????!!!!!!

I used to do that, but vomiting isn't fun. Call me a pussy but that just isn't something I can look forward to. In my older years I don't punish myself as much. I normally won't go over 15 reps.

465 X 5 @ (5'10", 217) - my muscles said throw on more weight, but then on the fifth rep my knee said hell no and gave out(ouch)!!! Six months later all healed up now!!

That's what I am talking about......

I am 5'11" 260's right now, at 284 I hit 795 for two, and in a meet I broke the MO record at 812.....no sqaut suit, no wraps, now I don't work out with more than 465 lbs. I still get growth though........

495X5 back in '99. Clean too except creatine. Since then I found out I have degenerative disk disease so I try not to load the spine like that anymore. Just leg pressing now at 1050 for 3.

my 2nd cycle i was squating 500 for 3 reps i weighed 165 at 5'6 ....i havent squated that much since... i dont max any more

Nobody cares about squat, but they are all over the bench press. Hmmm....

yeah... but it's nice to know guys like us who squat can wear a set of swim trunks and not look like a putz for having chicken legs

--Hess

315 10-12x I DON'T MAX OUT ANYMORE SO I DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH MY MAX IS. IN 1998 I DID 510 FOR 2 REPS. THATA THE MOST EVER. I NEVER GO OVER 315 NOW. UNTIL I CAN DO IT FRO 20 REPS.

Squats

I think that if you are not squating ...you must start..lifting is nothing without the squat.
squats are my favorite lift ,,,I can bench over 500 but squats are a true test of strength.
I'm a powerlifter and can't wait till my next squat workout . If you have not hooked the jump stetch rubber bands to your squat bar you need to try this , your squat and legs will get huge .hook at least 300lb of bands to the bar ..do 10x2 untill you miss a rep do this for 4 week then max out also use a box . Most bodybuilders dont know how to do powersquats thats why they hurt you knees and back. read all West Side barbell articles about squating and get the videos you will gain about 300lb on your squat and they will become your best lift. I know that some bodybuilders dont like to do them because they make you midsection to thick and strong . also I can squat about 800lb 650 off a 12 inch box for 2 reps

who cares?.............a better question would be: How good do you look?
Actually you bring up a good point when it comes to squats. I'm ~6'2 and sometimes squat with this short Italian fire hydrant who squats maybe 100 lbs. more than me. I would concede he is stronger than me, but not as much as it seems, because his range of movement is about half of what mine is with his stubby hairy little tree trunk stumps he calls his legs. Hell, when he spreads his legs apart to squat, he probably only has to move the bar about 6 - 8 inches to perform a 90 degree squat. Plus he's got a huge ass and a thick wide waist and is hairy like a fockin grizzly---so you can imagine what the chicks look like that he gets----probably the same.

I don't care how strong that mf gets and how much he can squat, I wouldn't want to look like him for anything.

hey extreem

No videos but there were pictures of me in Powerlifter june 2000, I can't wear wraps they cause me lose balance, and squat suits just don't look cool....ha...but I positively had a belt on, I hope to have pictures in musclemag soon, my training partner is in there this month towards teh back ,Mark is his name it's a photo shoot for an arm workout, the pictures are about two years old though....

Is that while I still had a knee to stand on

or after......

Before my knees gave out....I was doing 605 for four at the end of my workout.....now i stick to lighter weight....405x10 for four or five sets.

who cares....you will if you ever have to back up those "pretty muscles". i do bb shows. i've won open hwvywt's in a couple. BUT i always powerlift and do meets in the offseason. if i want more muscle i powerlift. that's why i care about how much i can squat.

Questions like this are worthless unless you see someone's FORM.

I see guys at my gym throw 3-4 plates on a side, then proceed to drop down like 6 inches - and they call that a squat. What BS.

To me, if your thighs do not at LEAST go parallel to the floor, you have not gone low enough.

But most guys get SO focussed on how much IRON is on the bar (instead of doing the movement correctly) that they do half-assed squats. Same with bench presses, curls, cable rows, etc. Its sad.

I do full sets of squats with only 275 on the bar. Not a lot - right? But I know guys that will put like 400-500 on the bar and could never do my 275 and drop as low as I do.

Plus, I have been blessed with large legs, I dont work them too much becuase if I do, they get oput of proportion to the rest of me.

Anyway, its not just about "how much iron". Form and the speed of the movement have a tremendous effect.

I'd love to see these claims go rock bottom..I guarentee half if not more of these guys making these claims aren't doing their squats correctly.

Like fingernails on a blackboard to me when I see that.

Yeah theres these guys at my gym that throw on 500 pounds and go down a couple inches, scream, grunt, yell and think they are the shit.

you definitely wouldnt like my form....

I do box squats but my backside isnt on the floor....and I'm a little above parallel....my knees just cannot stand the pressure of dropping below parallel any longer.

But leggz are still larger than the rest of me....I wont go below parallel any longer.

i did 315 for a single three weeks ago......backed out of rack....butt to heels all the way. it felt like my spine was bending...i didn't like that part of it.

My old university had this old Universal Squat machine.. Now I know some of you are going to say that a squat machine must be crap.. It was an excellent machine. The shoulder pads allowed you to shuffle forwards and back and alter foot position quite easily. I felt that it gave me plenty of free movement (not like the overly restricteveness of the Smiths machine).. I got to squat 140kg with that. The machine had the capacity for extra weight - it had 2 weight stack on it, together with a included stack of around 100kg). That was my best. Used to do 80 full range for reps on the regular un-assisted squat. About the same as my bench press now (80kg). I just never got happy with squatting. My knees fucking ache sometimes. I now only do leg press. And even there I have only got to 12 x 20 for deepest reps I can extract from the machine's adjustable geometery settings. I have done a lot of bicycling in the past, maybe this is it.. or my 34inseam at 6ft teel are a responsible for my squatting failure. But my legs are still a bit lagging. 25.25 largest part. Pitiful.
