the penalty for improper sharps disposal is brutal.

I never knew that was a law in CO., that a new law? I lived their for sometime. My buds always just disposed of them in a hard container or coffee can and sealed the device prior to putting in trash.

Seriously?!?!?!?!

You guys tak all the care in the world to get your shit, wipe with alcohol swabs, find the perfect place to pin. Swab that area then poke and say fuck the trash man. He is on his own.

You ever ben stuck by a dirty needle? I did once at work and it is a scary thought. I even knew what the pt had and it was stll scarey. If joe blow gets stuck by a needle that has been in the trash he has no idea what is on it. I would be freaked the fuck out.

Buy a sharps container. They are cheap and can hold a full cycles needles. If you are scared of being questioned why you have 23 gauge needles in there everytime you bring in a fullsharps then rotate where ya drop them off. Any ER will take them. ASk the triage RN to take it from you. Go to any pharmacy and drop it off. Dont risk/scare the trash man's life.

Throwing in the trash is a douche bag move.

Anways, yall seen any good movies?

yea, it is not really directed at the average person but at docs that did not want to pay for biohazard disposal ($$$) so they would just dump stuff in public containers.... but it can & has been used againt individuals when they had nothing else (clean house). usually its just the basis for a warrant. there is an unwritten rule in colo that they do not go after either the records of those prepaid biohazard sharps disposal containers nor do they open them(plus their is some kind of grey area re: federal law)--but that could change or if was being used to for storage of unused gear.

besides that. i am sure they would also find trace amounts of steroids on each and every needle.

here's a question - what do you guys do with your empty vials?

i peel the labels off and toss the blank vial in the trash wrapped in some sort of padding

i have a burn barrell. :)

sharps, vials and even some small bottles and packaging I put in the sharps container at work but there are public places that have sharps containers too. The Casinos in Niagra Falls had some in the men's room. Guess it's for the poor old guys with diabetis that are there playing the slots long enough to need a couple insulin shots.
If you're recapping them then I guess a bleach or detergent bottle is OK but they're a lot thinner plastic than a sharps container.
Some hospitals offer free drop off - no questions.

Just curious. If I were a betting man, other than the hrt guys, most just hide it in the trash.

I just put them into an old plastic container that you cannot see into and super glue the lid shut. :) Its not a proper shars container per say but at least i am not just throwing a sharp straight into the trash.
