How low on shoulders?

I was lifting with an older friend of mine on friday. We were doing shoulders. Currently, I do shoulder press with a barbell to the front. I generally come down to my chin and then go back up. My friend told me that I was stopping to early. He told me to come down to level with my throat then go back up.

However, i find that when i go this low, my arms feel like they are getting mashed into my lats. Is this from poor form? Or should i just not go down that far??

How far do you go down ??

I go down and touch my chest and then go back up. Perhaps your grip is too wide or too narrow and that's what is giving you problems. Try varying your grip and see how it feels when you go all the way down.

i go to colar bone/upper chest

Going all the way down, puts the cuffs under a lot of stress

Every shoulder lift puts stress on your rotator cuffs. The bottom part of shoulder press would be no different than the placement at the top part of cleans would it not? Such power moves as clean and press, push presses come all the way down. I've previously injured my rotator cuff and going all the way down does not feel bad on my shoulder but I would like to hear your thoughts on this CoolColJ because you seem pretty knowledgeable about lifts. Don't wanna mess up my rotator cuff more than it already is:)

Thanks for the varried advice guys. I guess i will try taking some weight off the bar and try going a bit farther down. I dont think i can go all the way to my chest though, just do to flexibility. When i do lat pulls, even with little weight, i cant really touch my chest. If it feels ok then, i will try and work my way back up in weight. Otherwise, ill stick with chin height, which at the least, takes my arms past 90 degress.

I go down to chin, I also find its pretty strenous on the cuffs, and it feels really awkward.
If I go down to my collar bone it kinda puts a strain on my upper back, its hard to describe.
