How important is a training journal?

i used to debate on using one or not a while ago, trust me use one. every since i have started using one i am able to keep more focused on my workouts from week to week knowing what reps and weight i used the week before, also it is motivation when u look at a couple weeks before and u have upped ur weight.
 
Having a training journal distracts me. I always try to push my self for what i did the week before instead of just going with the flow. Lots of people like them but I kept one for a year and now don't like messing with it
