how effective is a middle of the night snack

just wondering how effective it would be for me to wake up around 2 in the morning for a shake or something similiar. i'm on a high intensity endurance wokrout. thanks

i know some people who do it with good results i don not and would not recomend it unless you naturally get up in the middle of the night i think a good night sleep is more important just make sure before you go to sleep you get some kind of slow digesting protien and healthy fats and you shoukd be ok hope this helps bro

this is a good point, although some will do anything to achieve a positive nitrogen balance.

Waking up intentionally in the middle on the night is not wise

This is ESPECIALLY kep if you train in the evening...........persoanally, I tend to go with high protein and fat, but thats just becuase its what I crave late night.........I've been known to fall asleep watching the game with a bowl of peanuts, a large casein shake, and some cottage cheese on my lap..........I need to stop eating laying down! LOL..........

i still eat carbs before bed time and i havent had any repurcussions

Yeah, but I'll bet you're under 30...

I don't think that actually waking up to eat is such a great idea. Unless you wake up in the middle of the night cause your stomach is growling and you REALLY feel starved. Remember that our bodies have been sleeping at night for thousands of years and are quite aware that they likely wont get any food. Kind of the reason why our heartbeat and breathing slows, etc. etc.

That's just opinion though, I'm as full of shit as the next guy. Probably more so..lol!

your right im 18 and im taking advantage of it while i can. i dont wake up to eat but i eat big before i go to bed.
 
I get in extra protein/calories by pounding a protein shake (sometimes with flax, if bulking) when i get up to piss in the middle of the night. Then I gotta piss again a few hours later 'cause of the shake. :rolleyes: Oh well.
