How do you figure out how much to spend on an engagement/wedding ring? Girls and guys feel free to chime in please.

Thank you for all the responces. I do make good money and was thinking around 25k or so for her ring. She likes the fine diamond stores like Tiffanys and Carties so I would think I will be paying quite abit for the name alone as it is. Can you even get a nice ring for 25K at Cartiers? Thank god I still have plenty of time to think this out. Also would you girls want the ring sprung on you or if you already knew it was coming at some point would you want a hand in choosing what you got?
1. Dont spend a lot of cash (in relation to what you think is a lot of cash), save it and buy something else (house, nice vacation, etc)
2. If she is pressuring you to spend a certain amount, run far away from her high maintenance ass.
3. Be a man and spring it on her, and remember how she reacts because it will say a lot about her character. trust me on that.

I am not big on jewlery.
My first wedding set included a simple diamond, not even 1 ct. With a simple gold band.

Then a few months later he bought me a beatiful heart shaped diamond about 1/2 ct.

Then 2 years ago he bought me a white gold set with crosses etched into it. Very pretty. It was the set that I had wanted for a long time

What do you mean by #3. ?? I'm interested to hear what you think about this.

I reacted shocked and a little shaky. I remember not really noticing the ring and gave him a hug and said yes. Then I noticed the ring and put it on. I guess he was a little dissapointed, he wanted me to cry or fall on the floor or something.

Our wedding bands - both sterling silver, very unique and well under 50$ a pop.

Mine is a fairy much like the tatt I have on my hip of me and my girls. His is a dragon, very masculine and sorta matches mine.

Our entire wedding including rings, decorations cost us under 200$. Those in attendance brought the food an drinks. Was by far, the most fun we have all had in a very long time. ;)

huh?

so, wouldn't the actual proposal drop you to your knees... or is it just the ring?

My man could walk up to me with a ring from a bubble gum machine and propose and I'd be happy as pie! Material things mean nothing to me, the thought and the process and the love means more than anything.

No, neither one dropped me to my knees. THats what I'm saying. I think he was really dissapointed, I was very very happy, but I did not cry or drop to my knees or anything. I felt bad later, but you cant help what you do when you are suprised, ya know? Dont get me wrong, I was sooo happy and kinda shaky, I was just so suprised, I really had no big reaction. I think he wanted one. The ring was really really nice, but I just stared at it. Im not making any sense....lol
