I would prefer a very simple band of silver or white gold, no diamond at all. Cluster diamonds suck, but I would wear it if it were to come to me out of love. Just saying.

If you have a house a nest egg and can afford a 10,000 ring then spend it if not DONT. Do not put yourself in debt just for the sake of a ring and scrape by with the bills for the next 5 years.

Also keep in mind interest rates on jewelry stores are around 20% so buy cash or have a credit card with a decent limit.

Thank you for all the responces. I do make good money and was thinking around 25k or so for her ring. She likes the fine diamond stores like Tiffanys and Carties so I would think I will be paying quite abit for the name alone as it is. Can you even get a nice ring for 25K at Cartiers? Thank god I still have plenty of time to think this out. Also would you girls want the ring sprung on you or if you already knew it was coming at some point would you want a hand in choosing what you got?

Yes, you can find great rings at Tiffany's and Cartier's. I also suggest Nile's. I bought my ring at Tiffany's and it was under 25K.

For me it comes down to attention to detail, cant beat handmade detailing with a clear cut diamond. For the cute look for cushion and ascher cuts diamonds, very rare and have a number of facets to reflect light.

I did not choose my ring; and I love my ring. He did ask what I liked, if I liked my friend's rings, what would I like if he bought one, etc. I had no idea he bought a ring, the whole idea about him going out and buying a ring like that behind my back, with me having no idea, made it just so sweet!!! I was blown away!!
