How do you enter a MMA fight?

Hey, I was wondering if anyone knows how one would go about entering an MMA event? I live in Orlando, FL and have been doing martial arts for some time and I would like to see how I would do.

Any help is appreciated.

you need to find out who your local orgs. are. Talk to instructors in your area they're usually tuned into the fight seen. You say you have martial arts experience yet the fact that you have no idea who holds the fights and where there held tells me that either you train in an art not usually associated with MMA or that your very inexperienced. If either is the case I would suggest trying some grappling tourneys first or maybe traveling to an area where they have fights for your style before entering into a full blow MMA or NHB event. It would be more prudent to start small before being thrown to the wolves. I've seen to many muscle bound bodybuilders (no disrespect to bodybuilding) and bar brawling tought guys get brutally beaten to advise otherwise.

You're right on the first point. I don't train in MMA. I train in a more traditional style of kung fu. Meaning it's not really for show. I've fought before, but it wasn't really official. I've fought bjj, muy thai, karate, taekwondo, as well various military "hand to hand combat" specialists. The military ones I have to admit were the weakest. I just want to try MMA. It seems like a good opportunity to further test my skills in ways of good sportsmanship and maybe even make a buck or two.

I've only found one MMA school down here and they don't seem to want to give me any idea since I'm not a "member".

you need to get a fight promoter or manager that is interested in representing you. I would suggest you make a video of yourself sparring and displaying your strengths and then send it out to some promoters and managers. It's much cheaper than travelling around and will give them a sampling of your talents.

Find some of the MMA message boards and start posting your interest and you will get some names to send your video to.

Don't start with Zuffa, LLC (UFC) and Dreamstage Entertainment (PRIDE) instead start with King of the Cage, Xtreme Fighting Championship and smaller local shows.

some websites to check out are:

www.sherdog.com
www.mmanews.com
www.mmaweekly.com
www.maxfighting.com
www.groundnpound.org

and pick up a copy of Full Contact Fighter magazine at a local Tower Records.

If you have to ask how to get a cage fight, you probably shouldn't be considering it? No offense but it's like a trainer asking, "How do I get clients?". My advice probably saved your face :)

Thanks 1392477! I'll go ahead and try that method and see what comes up.

Landospike, like I said before I'm just trying to test myself and my art out in a different arena. A lot of rules go against me, I don't think I'm allowed to take my hand and grab people's collar bones or smash fingers into pressure points but it's all in good fun :)

its funny , theres a WHOLE TOPIC asking why there arent more CMA ppl in MMA tourneys ...

You think Arrogance like that displayed in this thread is part of the reason why ?

Sounds good then because they're not allowed to smash elbows into the back of your skull or shatter your ankle into a million pieces....

She is a local (Los Angeles) manager who is in contact with many promoters getting fights for people. Contact her and send her a copy of your video for possible representation.

I'm sorry if I have come off as arrogant. Like I mentioned before I just want to test myself. How do I know what needs to be worked on unless I fail or hopefully succeed?

In all honesty when I do ground work in my school we do hit pressure points and even ones in the neck to a certain degree. I know that's not allowed and I wonder how I'll do knowing that.

Maybe I'll get the crap kicked out of me, it's not like it'll be the first time. Then again getting up after getting knocked down is much more important than never getting knocked down at all.

On another note, thanks again 1392477. I will send her an email and get in contact with her.
