How do I do 1 arm dumbell snatch?

Hello all!


I have heard that 1 arm dumbell snatches are great for back and hamstrings. Anyone know any sites that show how to do this exercise?

Don't know any sites...but i can try to explain them. I do them in my football program.

Put one DB in one hand and the other behind your back. Go into a jumping position and hold the dumbell between your legs. Bend Down with the weight and than give it all you got (back, legs, calves) than when you get the weight high enough straighten your arm and voila.

I've never specifically done dumbell snatches before.The only one-arm snatches I do are with a barbell which is a whole different movement.In my non-expert opinion, snatches in general are good for developing strength,coordination and power, but if you look at many competative olympic lifters, the majority have great overall mass throughout their bodies, especially their backs and their primary movements are snatches and clean and jerks.
 
It is more of a curiousity than a real size or strength builder. The effort required to actually develop enough skill to manage a real amount of weight is enormous. The classic snatch, however, is an excellent exercise, easily one of my top three.

And no, the DB snatch does not work the hamstrings to a great degree. The snatch will, assuming you are pulling heavy enough weight, but the weight used will always be less than an RDL, which is, IMO, a better exercise to specifically target the hamstrings.

The snatch will work the upper back like no other lift.
