How do I avoid getting sleepy while bulking?

Everytime I up my calories I feel tired all day. I think it is because the extra carbs lead to too much insulin or something like that, but I don't eat that many carbs, maybe 280-300grams per day.

Does anyone have a similar problem?
How should I deal with this? More fat and less carbs?

It could be the issue of the insulin, and it causing you to have low blood sugar levels, which happens to me because I'm hypoglycemic.

On the other hand, it could be the fact that your body knows it needs to extra sleep in order to grow. I often sleep alot when bulking, even on low carbs. I gain size very rapidly when I do though.

Whenever I get my blood sugar tested, I'm at the low end of the spectrum but normal, like 67-70 (I don't know the units) after a 12 hour fast.

BBFinaplix, how would someone know if they're hypoglycemic?

Got to your doctor and find out. My blood sugar tends to be alot lower than that, most of the time. 40-50 ng/dl

Anyway, would something like r-ALA help? I don't want to shell out the money $$$ but I'm willing to give it a try if someone has a similar experience.

r-ALA is used for glucose disposal. It may lower your blood sugar levels further. If nothing else, you could try some additional caffien. How much sleep are you getting every night, on average while bulking?

I usually get 7-9 hours of sleep per day, but lately I feel like sleeping even more. I got like 11 hours this morning :p

BTW BBFinaplix, I think I've read before that you think the traditional dogma of avoiding a high carb - high fat combination is bullshit. I try to get some fat with every meal, because at least it should slow down the insulin response, right? I mean if insulin is making me sleepy, I think I should try to lower it...

Caffein works like magic for me, but I try to stay away from it because I think it hinders my gains substantially. I have a very high metabolism and I am hot all the time. The only reason I carry extra fat on me is because I eat like an animal in order to make sure I put on some muscle.

Try some Chromium Picolanate. It's good for regulating insulin synthesis and will help promote muscle gain. It's also anti-catabolic. The biggest misinformation about it is its used to lose weight, which it will help do. But it will also help you gain weight if your diet is designed to do so. The majority of people are chromium deficient and balancing your levels will help someone achieve their goals quicker, whether gaining or losing.
