House votes to cut $4 billion a year from food stamp

Our system is broken and should be scrapped.

This makes all other points moot.

There is nothing we can do at this point but start over.

We will be starting over soon enough, see the fall of the Roman Empire as our template

Its cutting $4B per YEAR, not per month. Its $7 a month when using your 47M person figure.

Gotta start somewhere when we are $16T in debt with out of control entitlement spending

Oh yea, fuck corporate welfare also
Actually, yeah, you're right, I totally zoned. So we cut out a gallon of milk and a jar of peanut butter per poor person, when their nutrition is already shitty, cool.

So if we're so darned broke, why doesn't the govt. figure out how to get the multiple trillions of dollars that corporations shelter from the tax system ever year? Ooo, nevermind, I forgot, corporations pay for political campaigns and fixed income people (which includes senior citizens, veterans, the handicapped, etc.) are just human garbage.

Why don't we just call it a day, adopt the Nazi model and start executing certain "undesirables"? Seriously. Handicapped, too old to work, born into poverty, mentally unstable, bad judgement too young, single solution: Bullet to the brain. Those bullets could save millions upon millions of dollars.

And then we grind up the dead and turn them into cheap nutrition for everyone who can't afford "real food". Sounds like a perfect society to me.

Did Rome really fall?

There would have to be a revolution similar to that of our nation's beginning but on a GLOBAL level.

As long as we live in a monetary based society, things will stay the same. The only way for us to continue on, ultimately, would be to shift to a resource based economy.

To understand what I mean, check out Zeitgeist: Addendum (Netflix).

I know it's difficult for you to read a few sentences at a time, much less understand them, but I think you missed the part about the budget cut primarily focusing on eliminating the loopholes that allow able-bodied adults with no dependents to stay on foodstamps indefinitely, and drug testing the applicants who qualify.

You really want to feed some fuckstick who is able to work, but doesn't because he'd rather sit at home and collect a check while smoking meth all day? You do realize that if that guy lived in the generation of our grandparents, he would fucking starve to death, and the world would be a better place?

The government cant "figure it out" because its perfectly legal to use tax shelters. If the corporations are legally sheltering their money (just like many individuals do) then so what. Cant blame them, blame congress who made the tax code. Or do you think everyone should not act in their own best interests within the legality of the tax code? Im sure you arent paying anymore taxes than legally required are you?

So it's okay to take away from the govt. if you're rich and not paying your fair share so you can get richer, at least as long as you don't get caught and your kiss ass politician buddies make laws that give you shelters (like Mitt Romney being able to write off his show horses but I can't deduct my cats) it's just a problem when you're poor and you're asking for help you genuinely need.

And since my husband and I have absolutely no way of sheltering money, no funds, no nothing (we haven't been able to afford to pay into his 401k for ages) we probably pay proportionately more taxes than those who make substantially more than we do.

That's doubtful. The 'fair share' term is laughable as well. Stop watching so much CNN and actually do a little reading.

The top 10% in this country last year earned 31.5% of our total income, yet paid over 71% of our total income taxes.

Just because someone makes more than you doesn't mean there should be a rule saying they pay a higher percent.

I'm totally fine with someone who earns $10million paying the same percentage as me in.

If you want more money, find another career, or stfu. Noone cares about your shitty financial situation, that's your own responsibility.

And lol @ 'taking from the govt'

The fucking government doesn't own shit. Technically, federal income taxes are fucking illegal.

ONce again, tax shelters are legal so theres nothing to get caught for. As far as paying fair share, thats debatable but you cant argue that you would pay more in taxes than is legally required by law. So why do you expect everyone else to? You cant just expect everyone to offer up their money to the government because "its the right thing to do". Whats the incentive? The federal government is a black hole of waste. Any given person will always have a better plan for their own money instead of government. If you dont think so, then why dont you forfeit all your money to the government and ask them to do the best with it on your behalf. I dont think you will get the result you want.
The tax code has always been advantageous to those who provide capital investment to the nation (i.e. capital gains rate is only 15% compared to payroll taxes much higher). The reason is capital investment provides companies with necessary capital for R&D, expansion, PPE, all which create JOBS. These are good things in case you forgot.
The point is if you put money into stocks and bonds, which is good for the nation as a whole, the tax code rewards you for that so you dont put your money into a checking account or savings account, or in a coffee can in your backyard, which isnt as good for the economy and investment capital.
Government can never create, government can only take and redistribute. Theres no way around it since the government derives its entire funding from taxpayers made to pay by force of the IRS and fed gov.

Did you know the US has only had a federal income tax since 1916?

How did the nation manage to function for the 150 years before that?
