Help Guards pick his new hunting rifle:)

They are great. I'm partial the the Leopold diamonds myself. I really like the Leopold rings no matter what scope you mount. Be sure to get the scope as low as possible.

Leopold has always been my choice. The reason i was considering bushnell is to cut the cost a little bit. I used a leopold on my sniper rifle (compitition grade) and love it to death....i am just not sure the cost outweighs the benefits for a hunting rifle.

Think i should take the plunge and splurge on a more expensive set of optics??

Check out a SWIFT brand. I have a huge one on one of my .300 Ultras. I love it. It was about $400 or so and is like a 24 power or so. I have all my long range 800yards+ scopes done by a gunsmith. I get them shimmed so @ 800yards I'm not close to top-out on the dial. It's good to keep the dails as close to center in/out as you can. Tasco has really stepped up their product line also. Not my first choice, but they will do I guess.

Savage makes decent hunting rifles also at a great price. I have one of their tactial models. Shoots tight groups with factory loads.

The browning a bolt is a good gun also. I like the fine wood vs. the composite stocks. Check out a .300 WSM or Ultra.

I would avoid the boss system unless you are an avid reloader. they are loud as hell. Almost to the point of needing hearing protection while hunting. If you really think you need it, get the one without the brake or one where it can be closed up. trust me, a .300 mag will kill your ears with the boss.

What's your take on the ruger all weather's? For some reason i keep leaning toward ruger. I used to own a mini-14 and loved it to death. Never failed me. Are their hunting rifles of the same quality?

Bro, just get something with the guy you reffered to me. I finally bought a snipper riffle from this guy and I'm totally satisfied. I'm sure he could build you something at a decent cost according to your specification. :)

I've killed many deer with the Ruger all weather. My hunting buddy has used one for years with a cheap ass scope on it. Last season he made a 400 yard standing shot with it in 30-06. I wouldn't have taken the shot with my .300 standing. I think it is about he ugliest gun I have ever seen. I'm not a big fan of Rugers, minus there six shooters. I'd go with the Win pre-64. Go try them out. Feel how loose the Rugers action is. The 30-06 is a great caliber. Probably got he most deer kills behing the 30-30, but it is a little out dated IMO. there are faster flatter calibers out there for the long shots.

You went with Keith? He's good shit, eh?

For a hunting rifle, keith would be a little too pricey. He did the work on my sniper rifle though....he is the best in the business here in Canada IMO.

Ever though of a used rifle?

Check out ar-15.com's classifieds. I've ordered about 20+ guns from those guys. Always in great shape. They have tricked out rifles that they get tired of. I've sold a rifle on there and bought it back a year later and sold it again//lol

People just get tired of their toys and sell them to fund another one. Also www.gunbroker.com is a good place to buy. they great prices.

Anybody played with a .300 whisper?
