Help Guards pick his new hunting rifle:)

I only use NIKON optics.

Aren't the model 700 under scrutiny for misfirings?

look at the .375 chambered rifles for moose.

I think the new model 710 is the one that people are questioning....cheap for what you get.

Nikon optics,eh? Pricey, do you think they are worth it?

are you kidding me, with my 22-250 I take white tail down at 350yd + ! All it takes is one Mairne rifle expert on the other end and that deer doesn't stand a chance. It's the greatest rifle I've owned and has exceptional range!

You could just get a pair of lever action rifles, one in .30-30 for whitetails and one in .35 Whelen for moose ;)

I used to use a Marlin 30-30 for deer. The gun turned into a bit of a death trap when i attempted to adjust the trigger weight and ended up with a very scary hair trigger. I can still use it, but prefer not to. You fart too loud and it'll go off.

My only beef with lever action rifles is that they are a pain in the ass to clean and/or strip. I'm ex-military, so a clean rifle is a bit of an obsession :(

What about 7mm....think i could use it for deer and moose?

Easy there devil dog, i never said you couldn't hit it. It just seems that such a small round would mean you're following blood trails for a few miles. Can you take it down with some power with that caliber? That's just a .22 on steroids.

Being fair to distanced, I have used, and killed more game with my .222/12 guage over/under than any other rifle I have, or will ever use for that matter....I have never lost 1 animal, nor have they run...

Shot placement is paramount though....

I wouldn't try a moose with it, and I personally like the smaller calibers that do just as good as the much larger ones...You must consider the type enviroment you'll be hunting, if it's wooded, brushy, and thick, a heavy caliber should be thought of first....If it's a bit more open and allows you a longer, and cleaner shot...I lean towards the 6mm Mag.

I personally love mine...Hunt deer with it in the fall, and burn groundhogs up with it in the summer, the only thing I do is switch from my Leupold(Deer) to my 20X Jurntal(Groundhogs) with spring action precussion mounts....Of course I played around with it a bit...Bedded, free-floated, trigger re-worked, and removed all the factory ejectors and extractors and replaced them with Sako.....

Hmmmmmmmmm......Did I say Sako...???

Now there is another thought....<evil wink>

Sako? I never even considered it....hhhmmmmm

I get a Winchester with a pre-64 action. 30-06 is a great all around caliber. I have a Rem Sendaro in .300 Win mag. I've killed several elk with that gun. It's pretty heavy though.

Sako's are great but they are high. You really can't beat a pre 1964 action. I have several guns based around it.
