Help Guards pick his new hunting rifle:)

Hey lads,
I'm in the process of trying to pick my new hunting rifle. I primarily hunt moose and whitetail deer, so I think it should be chambered in 30-06 but any suggestions are welcome.

Here are a few of my ideas:

Ruger:

Remington:

I'm currently leaning towards the Ruger. As for optics, I'll probably go with a Bushnell medallion series or something similar.

All suggestions welcome!!!!

Thanks lads, I'll distribute the ole karma for some help:)

:)

Remington Model 700 ADL with synthetic stock in 30-06 is perfect for game....Get a better scope than Bushnell.... I got a Burris 3x9 and still haven't had a chance to shoot it yet. Waiting to put on a Bipod for it as well.

I only use NIKON optics.

Aren't the model 700 under scrutiny for misfirings?

look at the .375 chambered rifles for moose.

Ruger 22-250 with an 18x40 variable scope

mines been great, though it may be a bit small for moose unless you're darn good with your head shots

I gotta go with the Remington. Very nice.

What ranges? Keep the range close on the moose and a .30-06 with a ~225 grain Nosler Partition/Barnes X or similar controlled expansion bullet should work fine. Then use 180 grain Ballistic tips or similar pure soft bullets for the thinner skinned whitetails.

.30-06 is in my mind, one of the world's most versatile cartridges.

.300 Mag is a bit too much for our small Southern whitetails, but if you're hunting the 300 lb ones that I have seen from Canada then the .300 would work well for those too.

I wouldn't look at a gun less than .30 caliber, and although a .338/8 millimeter would work well on moose, it would be a bit overkill on whitetails.

For guns, I'm a big fan of Remington 700s and Pre 64 style Winchester 70s. Although I dont have any expirience with many other bolt action centerfires, so I cant say good or bad for them.\

You could just get a pair of lever action rifles, one in .30-30 for whitetails and one in .35 Whelen for moose ;)

You use a 22-250 for deer???? Isn't that a tad small? Have you had success with that?

22-250 would just make a moose mad, really mad.

What's wrong with bushnell? What have you heard about bushnell's quality?

I use a leopold on my competition rifle but was trying to save a couple of bucks on the optics (No pun intended..lol). Do you think i should spend the extra $$$ on a better scope?
