Hello to all. I have been reading this board for some time now and decided to join but, I can't log in..altough I paid for a platinum membership. So, here I am logging in under my Man's handle. Help...after seing how well my Man is doing , he gets ripped and big and beautiful I had to join the gym. Don't like it and can't get myself motivated enough to take it seriously. I go... but really...I kill time more then I work out. How can I get motivated? I had a trainer but all that Iron is intimedating. Help! Thank you.

I think once you give the weights a chance and realize that you CAN lift them, it will become much more fun and less intimidating. My wife used to be very hesitant, but she started getting stronger and adding poundage to her bench and squat, etc and now she really likes trying to push bigger weights.

I agree, just take it slow. No need to rush, get burned out or injured. You'll find that once you start getting stronger and more comfortable with weights, the motivation should quickly follow.

As to how to get motivated NOW< well, that is up to you. Nobody can get motivated FOR you. You have to want to do this for YOU.

it's hard getting started on a training program, but once you get into a routine and start to see results, it can become quite addicting!!
 
Thank you so much for responding. I swear its the weirdest thing standing in the gym and not knowing what all those machienes are all about. Every morning I look in the mirrow and think ..hey you look great no need to worry..I am 5'9 128 pounds and slender...but I know I 'd like to be more toned and have definition. I have no strength in my arms whatsoever, its all in my legs. Ok..going to the gym .....;(

Welcome Miss Sixty. I agree with Shak. I was never really motivated at the gym until I set up a specific program to follow. Now I am definitely addicted to lifting and going to the gym (I don't still don't like cardio though... but I do it little bit anyway).
 
Welcome to the site!! Take it slow when introducing a new exercise routine & give it time to take effect.......once you start seeing what weights can do for you, you'll be hooked!! It took me a bit but now I'm into it....

For me keeping a journal really helps with motivation - write down what exercises you did, what weight, how many reps, etc - then in a month or so you can look back and see how much progress you've made.
 
God you guy's and girls for that matter are great. Thank you for welcoming me...what is my handle? Well..its Misssixty2U and yes I got charged but can't get in. Keepeing a journal you say..well JT made me a schedule and at first I was like ..hell if they see me standing around with my notes at hand like I'm in the supermarket I quickly become the joke of the gym. OK I got over that. I so adore how others can be so dilligent about doing what they there for, I think I would give a kidney to be one of them..why can't I ? I grew up in East Berlin and we all got trained at an early age..so what is my problem now? Thank you so much for your input..also , I tried to get an avatar going but any and all files I upload are to big...why..why why...lol.
