Has anyone had a nerve block to relieve pain?

I have terrible shoulder pain. It's in the rotator cuff. I hate it because I can't train as hard as I want. I can't do incline presses unless I only use 135 lbs. Anything heavier is painful. I can't do any overhead presses with a barbell. On a good day I can do some light overhead presses with dumbells. I've had 2 cortisone injections in each shoulder. I had an MRI that showed a partial tear in the supraspinatus tendon. However the orthopedic surgeon said surgery wouldn't help. He referred me to a pain specialist. He's going to give me another cortisone injection. He said as a last resort he could use a nerve block. I'm curious as to the effectiveness of the nerve block.

I have Degenerative Disc Disease, and I've gotten shots, surgeries, implanted neurostimulators, and yes, nerve blocks. My problem is all my discs are degenerating, the fluid in each is leaking out, plus tears and at least one bulge; the Nerve Block only helped me a little, but please, if they offer it, try it, it may work better for you, as our injuries are different. And let us know if it works, it may help others. Sorry I couldn't help more!
Besides the nerve block, he also burned nerves to stop the pain from going further: because I had so many things done back then (I'm just over 14 years of chronic pain), I'm not sure if the Nerve Block and the burning of my nerves was the same thing. I hope you get it and it works for you!!

i rather feel whats going on than not (to an extent) pushing yourself because u feel better (but are not really) could lead to more injury .
this is comming from somone in daily chronic back/neck/spine pain for about 11 years. a year on pain meds at first then stopped them. thesy talked about fusing disks, corto-injections, surgery .. for what? it wont fix issue. imlosingfluid and have bulging and pressing disks and i rather know if im pressing on something or about to push myself too far and likely cause more damage.
only thing i use to help manage pain is cannabis and the off herbal tea (with cannabis, to help sleep)

in the long run i dont see good coming from the other options, not for most, deff not for me. the corto shots are not going to make you any stronger either.
what ever you decide think long and hard and do your own research before deciding.
good luck man. i know pain sucks trust me. mental sides are a bitch too. depression, moodiness etc.

So J_P, you said you do cannabis, does that help the pain, or even makes it go away for a while? The closest place for me to get it medically is D.C., I think, there has been nothing to stop my pain all these years, and I'm ready to try cannabis if it's worthwhile!

Bump.. I have had nerve block for my back & now going through a round for an upper bicep tendonitis. Getting MRI to reveal true damage. It it so painful. Cant do many bench exercises only incline at a certain angle. Nerve block just masks the pain for i while & you could be doing more severe damage. Drop all exercises that cause pain. Find ones with little discomfort & do slow light weights focusing on form & contraction for a while. Give some time & see where you are in a month or so. That is where i am now. It blows. Cant do 1 dip with body weight without excruciating pain leave ego at the door & work around it. Good luck brother
