Gyms Or Home?

The gym 4 sho....I have a home gym and over the past 2 years I`ve made very little progress. I joined a gym a month ago and I already feel like I`m growing.

I have both and its nice to not have to drive to the gym on weekends.

AM cardio is def. better at home as well.

I keep my gym membership for quick lunch break workouts and the saunas. Plus it took a good year to get my home gym to be up to par

Have a gym at home but can't focus. I like the gym!!! Plus I found a brand new gym about a mile from my house and it's only 9.95 a month!!! I can't turn my AC on for that!

Thats sweet, your gym must be rather close to your work then. I love convenience. I have about 5 different 24 Hour Fitness gyms all with 10 miles at my home and work...so it's really convenient for me to get there. They also have saunas there. I love the extras that they offer like the pools and free group sessions. Nice to mix it up at times.

What gym do you go to?

What gym to YOU go to? LOL?

I love to work out at the gym! I'm all about getting out of the house and teh people watching it provides. My gym is awesome though. There are leather couches and flat screen tvs all over the place as well as billiards, a Wii, sauna, steam, and all that jazz. So, I love it and try to get my $$ worth since I do nothing else these days.

I have free weights at home though. Gave my elliptical to a bunch of college girls to share.

Gym...I'd miss seeing the 'night crew' at the gym if I worked out at home. I don't get out as much as I used to, so the time I spend shooting the breeze with the boys and gals apres-workout is important social time for me.

Do you prefer working out at home or the gym?

Spent the last two years building up my home gym. I have a membership at the Y but only for swim training. My living room = my gym, donated my couches and moved my TV to a smaller room. Have everything I could want, minus a seated calf machine.

I am social as hell. But the gym was never a place for me to make friends. I never liked small talk and fake laughs.

I've met some of my best friends through the gym. Guys at my gym have done road trips to MMA events together, go carting, stuff like that...nothing fake about it: genuinely nice bunch of people for the most part.

Ok, THIS I totally understand. I am very social too (can you all tell). But once the headphones go on I zone out completely! Once I'm done, I go sit at one of the chairs and pretend to be working on my log book and that's where most of my good people watching time comes in.

Here's the deal with cardio with friend: They do NOT understand HIIT. Really busting you ass during a good sweatfest is not a good time to make friends. It's ugly. My one GF always tries to talk to me when I am in a high intrival and I have my music turned up. I don't use the "talk test" to ensure I'm not over doing it. LOL!

Hey Curvy- Your gym sounds more like a recreation center! LOL! Yes, I do love all the options I have at 24 Hour Fitness. I know what you mean when you say get your $$ worth. Even tho I don't get cut too deep with membership fees...but still.

Same here Saladfork...taking a dip in the pool is a nice change. I am glad its all under one roof. How long do you swim for?

Hey again Pink Gloves, you're a chick I take it? :artist:

Unfortunately, forced due to schedule and finances to work out a home since moving to FL, but in NH, for 5 yrs I was at gym every day 2 hours a day and noticed a better overall feeling, like we are all doing this together, same goal, team work...at home, no one to motivate me or spot me...but I am pretty disciplined but all in all I was in better physical shape at gym.

Haha...sorry, thought I filled in the gender part of my profile. Weird. I would hope so, with pink gloves. :-p

best Idea yet, ride a bike to the gym and back for cardio.
That would be nice to ride a bike to 24 Hr instead of driving, but, I live in Los Angeles, and it seems to take 10 minutes to get anywhere in Los Angeles by car. Do you live in a busy city as well?

right on, I live in Denver, but it's real bike friendly and I'm unattached so I can easily make time to ride 15+ miles to work and back, as well as a mile or two for anything else anytime.

It was just a thought.

No believe me, if I could ride my bike instead of driving, then gas prices wouldn't affect me at all! LOL! You are sure dodging bullets with gas prices by riding your bike, aren't you? :-p So when you get to the gym, you just do weights then? Then you probably don't have to spend too much time in a gym then, huh.

i like home due to the ability to work out anytime i want, but you lose the comraderie of the gym

There's just more motivation at the gym IMO, you look around and everyone is working so hard to get their goals done...very helpful to get thru the next 20 minutes on cardio! Of course, anything in your home is convenient, but the reasons to step outside my home are more beneficial to getting better in shape!

I agree! I have treadmill at home, but don't use it often. I prefer the gym.

Cardio is done at home and then I go to the gym for weights, if I could have a weight set at home I would but with four kids I would probably end up in the ER with one of them trying to hit the other one with one of the weights.

Ha! So you make the smarter choice and keep all "weapons" away from the kids? :p Have you tried child care at the gym at all, or does your gym not offer that?

Gym. Cant do shit at home. TV, gf, internet, patio, pool, food.... no way I can focus at home.

gym is close to me - 5 minute drive or less. I don't have any equipment at home any more, so I need the gym. If I had the equipment at home, I'd still go to the gym.

That is true, equipment is just too expensive...much easier to just pay $30 a month to use the gyms equipment! What is the most you have paid for membership before...or are you paying too much now?

I have a decent home gym and usually work out here. Sometimes I workout at the College, but it doesn't matter where I work out.

My motivation lies within. I'll lift rocks on the side of the road if that the only way to get in a workout.
