Grinding Oatmeal

When pressed for time I take old fashond oats, toss them in a blender and grind them. Add 2 scoops of protein and a touch of cinniamon (sp) with water and blend. Its quick and easy to drink and drive. One question.

Does the grinding of the oats deminish their value as a carb insofar as refining them (grinding them) so as to make them too easily digestable?

I guess Im thinking about refined carbs such as white flour. I know the best form to consume is as close as you would find the food in nature.

no, actually that's one of the great things about oats. Rolled oats, when ground up, actually don't change in GI all that much. You certainly don't lose any nutrients either.

Plus the fact that you are combining them w/ protein will lower the GI more and if you added some fats in there, would be even lower. I would suggest getting some fat in there too, throw a little flax seen oil or natty pb. I do 1c + 2/3 c. oats, w/ 1.5 cup skim milk and 1 TBLS. natty pb. and some splenda. 740 cals and it tastes awesome.
