Giant Sets everyday?

shooter-x

New member
earlier this week i read the thread on giant sets. i had never trained like this before but a couple days ago i didn't have alot of time that i could spend in the gym so i figured i'd try it for shoulders . it was the best workout i've had in a while so i did it the next day for back.....is there any negative side to training every body part like this for a while?

I think that I would burn out if I did giant sets for every body part, full intensity, for more than one week.

Just do less sets than in a convential routine

Also after 6 weeks your body/CNS may have adepted to this kind of intensity and it might be time to switch routine again.

Basically you are overloadiong TUT at the expense of poundage with giant sets, so after six weeks the next routine could best focus on bringing up the poundage with core exercises, you know the 5 * 5 stuff that Cornholio does with a little twist of triple drops sets added.

I.E chest:

5 * 5 incline benchpress
2 * triple drop set incline flyes
2 * triple drop set flat benchpress
2 * triple drop set flat flyes supersetted with dips

Giant sets are excellent for shocking the system. Since it is a high intensity type of training, I recommend using it sparingly. Thats my personal opinion. If you choose do use giants sets for legs; be prepared to puke!

I used to do giant sets every day for one bodypart each day 6 out of 7 days a week. It worked very well for awhle-I got bigger but not much stronger as I remember. I was up around 30+ sets a bodypart (including drop sets) I ended up overtraining though I remember my throat was so stuffed I could hardly talk for a few days-talk about overtraining! It did work for awhile though before I started powerlifting.

thanks everyone.....let me give you an example of what i did for shoulders and maybe some of you can tell me if you think im on the right track and if a similar method would be ok for the rest of my body parts......i should also point out that i understand the term giant sets to mean doing a few different exercises in a row with no rest.....campared to alot of you i would probably be called a newbie so my definition might not be right.....anyway heres what i did for shoulders this week:

seated military press to the front -
seated dumbell laterals-
upright rows-
barbell shrugs

no pause in between movements

i repeated all that 2 more times resting for about 1 minute between

it was the best shoulder workoutive had in weeks

any thoughts?

Sounds pretty good. I rest as much as needed between giant sets though...1 minute would NOT be enough time for me to catch my breath.

Be carefull doing these too often, especially with shoulders. You don't want to overtrain or injure yourself. Maybe try doing just the opposite rotation next time.

yeah you're just going to overtrain. my body cant take that kind of abuse. drop sets and giant sets are the WORST. talk about being sore and feeling like shit for the next few days.

Funny, i love drop sets etc, they give reasonable results for me and I recuperate relatively fast from them, but others hate them....

Maybe has sometime to do with muscle fibre makeup???

Could it be for instance that people with relatively more red fibres are better matched for drop sets and that white fibred people get more out of the low rep core exercises...? Just a thaught.
