I think that the only people that should be allowed to view ip addresses are admin.I dont think mods or chairpeople should be able to view them either.

OK this is my concern…they can get to my IP ... I can handle that ... I know enough to stay protected ...but this site stores your credit card info ..once you enter it they keep it (didnt ask you if was ok they just did) I have asked a few times to have it removed .. I went to the K store and was thinking about getting some karma to bet on a game...I clicked add to cart and boom they said thank you for your order and charged my card for it ...I usually think add to cart means I have the option to check out ..not I have already paid for it ...so here is my point will they get admin type rights ...who all has access to my stored info ?

yes i do...been around the block a few times when i had problems with mine..
i do not know the exact words i think it may be internet protocol or whatever it is called...it lets people know what service i use such as aol,verizon,comcast, etc...given the chance people can see my location and my name as well.

an ip address identifies your computer to the net
some people and isp's use firewalls that set a barrier between your actual computer and the rest of the net effectively giving you some true protection (this includes attacks from outside the firewall but also disallows potiental viruses from accessing the net from your computer) but even that can be hacked

some ip addresses are "pinged" to see if you exist and any response is a bad response
best firewalls set you up in a "stealth mode"

have you ever seent the lil picture of the caveman holding up a sign stating a number usually in a xx.xxx.xxx.xx format, your isp and what kind of operating system you are using well that tells you are visible to most of the net

I don't have a problem with the CoB's seeing my IP address... as long as they don't post that shit on the boards.

I think that it should be more then just admin that can view IP's as there is a lot of shit going on here this is a very busy board. I would think Admins as well Elite Mods would be enough people to take care of issues. Elite mods are the more seasoned and IMO more trusted mods around here.
