The thing is, law enforcement can obtain your IP address without needing a warrant. There is no "expectation of privacy" when you post a public opinion on a board that is free to join. And so all that needs to be done by L.E. agents is to sit a sniffer on the network connection to the server to get every piece of info you could ever need. And an IP address isn't the key, the MAC address is. DNS will assign you an ever-different IP address, but the MAC address is as permanent as a piece of hardware. Is a chat log admissable as evidence? Probably not, unless it contains threats or terroristic statements. I wouldn't worry too much about it....
