his lawyer is lazy and wants to avoid the paperwork. i'd rather spend 1 year in court defending myself, then 1 year in jail. tell him to get another lawyer and fight tooth and nail.
That's what i said. I just don't see any judge handing out a 2 year jail sentence to a first time offender for some weed. But it's pretty much too late to get a new lawyer now.

That's what my brother said. Basically because he's already given this guy close to $20k or so I think, and he's been working on the case since it happened last year.
I don't know how those things work...but I would think it would be hard for a new lawyer to jump into the mix now...and probably expensive.

It isn't right. His lawyer isn't doing his job if that is the only offer on the table. OR there is more behind this than your brother is telling you. He can and should get another lawyer or at least consult one before he makes any decision...

Yeah...there's not more to the story...I've been there the whole way. He has no reason to lie to me anyways.
It's been a fucking long road of drama the whole time. He's been indicted like four times, they've offered him shitty plea bargains...the lawyer doesn't return phone calls and is never available...just a bunch of bullshit.
I never understood why people don't like lawyers...i think i get it now.
Maybe now you'll write a letter or make a phone call when dumbass laws passes ad politicans campaign on bullshit instead of sitting on your ass in front of a relaity TV show.

As to the case, I am sorry bor, I've been through the system from many angles. 2 years state jail, seems unlikely, I know arsonists who did less.
Then again...drug laws.
Never heard a defenese atty say something could not be defended either.....lazy maybe. Get the other kid on the stand, etc
Trials are expensive though - another consideration.
