for those who train bi/tris together...

hey people,

can y'all help me with this; often, when i look at people's bi's/tri's days(for those that train them on the same day), i see that they alternate muscles which each exercise. for example (assuming the person is on the 5x5 program):

5x5 EZ bar curl
5x5 close grip bench
2x8 hammer curl
2x8 skull crushers

whereas i train them this way;(this is just an example)

5x5 EZ bar curl
2x8 hammer curl
5x5 close grip
2x8 skulls

are there any significant advantages to training them like in the first example? any other things to look out for?
thnx in advance, i'd really like to know.

Recently I tried training triceps first, then bis, and my biceps were a lot weaker than when I superset between the two

My bi/tri day is in with my shoulders

I train my shoulders first,
then I train my bis
then I train my tris...

Its almost like I have 3 mini days in one....

Once in a while i go back and forth between bis and tris... but I usually just stick to one muscle till its done

hmmmm i see, so needsize, what you're saying is that fatiguing the triceps first instead of supersetting them affects your bicep workout?(in a negative way, obviously)

Yup, I tried it a few weeks in a row and my strength was down 15-20% on bis, and since my growth is usually directly related to my strength, it sucked!! Supersetting also gets me out of the gym a lot faster

hmm i've noticed when i do it the other way around (bis first then tris) it's the same for me....(for triceps)
but let me get this straight; what you'll do is one set of, say, straight barbell curls and then a set of close grip (no rest inbetween)...,right? or do you perform all your sets for straight barbell curls and then all your sets for close grips...and so forth??

I do a set for bis, rest a minute or so then do one for tris, rest then do one for bis, etc. The rest periods between 2 bodyparts are much shorter than what I would take if they were straight sets for the same bodypart

i prefer to split mine in a bi/tri fashion as well. i complete the entire exercise though not split it each set. never tried tri's first - but i used to train tri's w/ chest and bi's w/back and i can tell you that my arms are growing better now (bi/tri together) than before. i love the full pump i get instead of just one part of the arm

thnx needsize for clearing that up for me. i'll give it a go today.

he-man; it's the same for me, i used to train tris/chest and bis/back together as well, switched to a separate bis/tris day a couple months ago, feels much better.

thnx ppl!

Keep in mind their opposing muscles,Your contracting one as you stretch the other.

I've always had better results alternating sets.
