For anyone who has read DUNE

Ok, back to the subject, I am actually now on the third book in the series.
They are so well written and exciting. Sci Fi was never my first choice in reading but Dune has kinda changed that. These prelude books are so readable I am missing sleep.

The book(s) were so much better than the movie. Just picture Sting singing his Fields of Gold album while walking through a desert searching for worms and there's your movie review.

yuh, I agree, the movies sucked, even though david lynches original movie was visually impressive and had a good vibe, just badly told and cut short.
But I am talking about the new books that just came out by his son called the butlerian jihad, set like 10000 years before dune in the times when thinking machines ruled the universe and the humans finnaly revolted against them. This was the basis of Dunes history.

Im a Big Sci Fi/Fantasy fiction fan, and have read just about everything I could get my hands on. But I made the unfortunate error of seeeing the movie before having read the book, and it sucked so bad, I can't get myself to ever get around to what Im sure is a great series

Forget about the movie, it ruined nothing for you beleive me.
Just read the book, the first hundered pages are slowish but then it takes off like an avalanch. It is one of the best reads ever and is considered by many one of the best books, not only in the sci fi genre.
Apart from being sci fi it is also an ecological/political/human nature and much more based book.

Dune was on AMC today. The movie isn't that great. I hear the books are much better.

Sting was pretty hot in the movie.

It sort of grossed me out that they have to recycle sweat & pee & stuff because there's no water.
