at the end of the day genetics will be needed to build a 'great chest'
of cousre you still can work it out and flat bench press would be a great compound lift to do that but there are plenty of guys who have built chest from simply doing pushups
Dumbells are better for triggering very specific areas of the chest, but you should do both. I am more a fan of just trying to put on PRs on compound lifts (at least at the moment), so I spend more time under the bar.
