I think i can clarify some things for you.
June 4th of this year, i weighed 283lbs. As of this morning, i weigh 222lbs. There seems to be a lot of bad mouthing around here about the Atkins diet, mainly, it seems, by people who:
1) Haven't researched it
2) Have never tried it
3) Are just repeating the same BS they've heard from other people
I've managed to lower my blood pressure and cholesterol, and stabilize my blood sugar, and i'm still on Induction

On Ketosis. The problem is that people are talking about
2 seperate processes when refering to Ketosis!!
Ketosis is not is not
is not harmful. Ketosis is simply a state that your body is in when it is releasing Ketones. Your body uses 2 fuel-delivery substances, Ketones are one, glucose is the other. Whenever your body sees fit to utilize your alternative metabolic fuel (your stored fat) the agents used are ketones.
NOW,
Ketoacidosis is different!. This is seen in type 1 diabetics who can't produce insulin. Since being fat is the result of an over production of insulin, how can you be in Ketoacidosis? Oh yeah, you CAN'T
You need to go out and buy
Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution (get the revised and updated edition and read it front to cover, and then all over again. Its about 7 bucks in paper back, so you have nothing to loose, except weight.
Thinking that you have to eat low fat to loose weight is complete BS. There is no reason to live your life hungry for years to loose weight, only to gain it back after you go "off" of a low fat diet (only 3-5% of people who loose weight on a low fat diet don't gain it back)
To the people who say that i'm going to have a heart attack and am unhealthy by eating the Atkins way, i simply show them the notches on my belt, and my good cholesterol readings. The simple fact of the matter is that it takes fat to burn fat. It takes a large fat intake (
ONLY if carb intake is LOW) in order to trigger your body to release the proper chemicals to break down stored fat.
I probably consume 300+ grams of fat a day. My body metabolizes all of it, plus about 1-2 lbs a week of stored fat. If your body is not storing fat, then it is not storing cholesterol, it is not harding your artieries, and you are not going to kill yourself.
This country did not start to become overweight until it started eating more refined sugar, and less natural fat products like real butter (not margirine), meats, cheeses, salad, green leafy vegtables, etc. We did not see heart disease, cancers, or diabeties until we started eating and drinking the CRAP that we do now. We are a health-aware society that has ADFA plastering us with the pyramid guide saying that we need 8-12 servings of grains, and what, 2-4 servings of fruit (talk about pure sugar there) a day, and look at that, we're getting more and more overweight.
Most average, everyday people should probably be consuming 70-120 grams of carbs a day, tops (hell, i'll never get that high). Go drink a gatorade and eat a potatoe, theres your carbs for the day.
Buy the book, read the book, and for once in your life enjoy yourself. I eat bacon and eggs for breakfast everyday, steak, chicken, fish (tuna rocks), salad, okra, broccoli, butter, mayo, etc, etc, everyday of my life. For 4 months i've enjoyed a stable blood sugar level, more energy than i've had since i was probably 12 (21 now), and when i'm hungry, guess what, I EAT. And why? because is takes fat (natural fats, not processed) to burn fat.
