Fat Belly

Don't get lipo! I know a woman that had it, but no one can tell because she gained weight right away. I guess she thought she could eat anything she wanted after her gut was gone. Duh.

You guys are a big help, thanks. FYI, when I was an 80lb anorexic my exercise instructor came up to me and in front of the whole class said "skinny, skinny, skinny, skinny, WITH A BELLY!" So I know it is not just in my head. I looked at HIIT, I am doing a version of that on the treadmill already on my cardio days. I understand that too much cardio can burn muscle but will it really burn muscle when there is plenty of fat still available? So frustrating. I guess the only thing I can really significantly change would be my diet...I am tempted to increase my cardio though. Well, My "South Beach Diet" came in the mail, gotta go open it! Thanks!

Most definitely! When trying to lose fat, we're fighting millions of years of evolution. It's only been in the last few hundred years that humans have had a relatively steady food supply. Before that it was feast or famine.

Our bodies equate fat with survival and will do anything to hold on to it. When the body gets a message of impending starvation, which can come from skipping meals or too few calories, it sets off alarm bells. This can include burning off muscle (because muscle requires calories just to exist whereas fat does not) and earmarking more incoming calories to store as fat.

The trick with losing fat is to stay under your body's radar by making only slight adjustments to calories and exercise. The little changes will add up, and there is much less chance of fat rebound. Even though the process will take longer, you won't get those sluggish feelings and intense cravings that come with more restrictive diets. And by giving your body more calories, you can exercise at a higher intensity and become more fit, which helps your body become more adept at burning fat.

I consider Clarence Bass to be the master of leanness. You can read his words of wisdom here:

Great information Fit Fossil, especially regarding nutrition. I am always anemic or borderline anemic, maybe that's contributing to that starvation belly look. As a matter of fact when I was thinner my sister told me countless times, "You look like a starving child in Africa"...(skinny with a belly). At 120 I know I should lose aboout 10lbs, I do agree with the lose it slowly.

I have read conflicting info on the cardio though. I have read less intense longer cardio sessions burn more fat and I was leaner when I excercised like that (although I was younger).

I'm definitely going to work on improving my diet....maybe try to do the HIIT verbatim....Thanks so much!

so your basing this off of what you said as a anorexic person, and some exercise instructor said, who was also probably anorexic????

lets see some pics............. i dated a girl when i was in high school. and she didnt workout, just ate a balanced healthy diet. she weighed in at 86 lbs and was 4'11. and belive me there was not "big belly." so i dont see how in the world you can be 5'5 (which is 6 inches taller) and weigh 6 lbs less, and have a big belly, i just dont see how its possible.

lets see a pic.

Do you have a very curved spine? It may not really be fat? When you tighten your abs does the shape change or can you feel the muscles move under a layer of fat?

I don't have a digital camera, when we need one my husband just brings the one from the office.....so I haven't the faintest clue how to get a picture to you sorry! I have received many comments on my belly (not just that one), which amazes me that people can be that rude but that's another story.

I don't have a very curvy spine, I do have what they call a "boyish figure" narrow hips and naturally slim....although what I would call "skinny fat", not a natural bodybuilder type, more naturally scrawny, which is why I work out.

I think the narrow hips contributes to the belly it's like the fat can't spead out so it pops out...LOL!

Anyway, I got a new PT (with a perfect body), I'm going to ask her what she thinks, she has trained people for BB competitions so I know she know her stuff.

Thanks guys!

Get your husband to bring the cam, and get some pics up. There is no fat that cannot be removed with proper diet and exercise (lifting and HIIT), but I want to see this "belly". At your stats, it seems like something that's entirely in your head.

Exodus is right. My ex-girlfriend thought she was fat even after droping down to 100 ibs with abes. Even after catching her sticking her finger down her throat several times and chewing her out about it, and constantly telling her she had a beautiful body, she was still convinced that she needed to loose another 20 ibs. It could very well be in your head. Post a picture if you can.
