I don't have a blood sugar problem but I think I do get too much of the real stuff without knowing it. I try to pay attention to the hidden stuff but it is everywhere. Of course eating clean keeps it out of the food we eat but it is even in the protein powders we use. We are a nation obssesed with sugar!

Oh! another thing........I'm leaning towards *taking with a grain of salt* the "studies" done showing negatives of Splenda as they were done by Big Sugar who is also suing the makers of Splenda over false advertising. Since Splenda is sugar's direct competition -- they are trying to shed a bad light on Splenda.

As long as you're not competing, I feel there's room for *some* Splenda and/or real sugar in an eating plan. As with everything, moderation is key. The BIG problem I have is that there's SO much *hidden* sugar in everything -- you really have to be careful....

I totally agree with you on this. First of all, it is so hard to find unbiased information on any product anymore. There is very little pure R & D anymore. Studies are funded by major corporations so their testing methods and data are suspect. This means, just like you said, eat it knowing there's probably some type of risk but if it's in moderation the risk is very low.

I love sweet anything. I have pretty much given up on art. sweeteners, though. I just go for real sugar now, but I don't do it very often. Just naturally cutting it out of my diet has slowed my desire for it. But when it hits...I don't fight it... :insane:

From my personal experience, splenda is great. You can cook with it, although it does not quite measure up to plain old sugar for taste in baking. Diet Rite uses it in all their drinks which are very good once you get used to it. Recently, crystal light introduced a bottled line of products that use it that are out of this world in taste, and each bottle has only 20 calories. Don't use their powdered stuff, they still put aspartame in their powdered drinks. Splenda is a chemically altered sugar molecule, referred to as a "left handed" sugar molecule. It passes through the body unabsorbed and has no caloric properties. I've used it for a long time and it has absolutely no effect on my blood sugar at all. Great for ketogenic/low carb diets. hope that helps.
