Excessive urination

overhead

New member
This maybe a strange question, but here it goes. For the past 9 days or so I have been urinating at an alarming rate. I mean like once every hour and a half and at very high volume. I was not too concerned about this at first, I thought maybe I was just holdng some water and my body decided it needed to go. I started out at 193 (carbed up so I was probably holding a little water) and this morning I got on the scale and weight 180!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I eat 4000 (lost power for three days so the calorie numbers maybe off a little, but not by a lot) cals a day, there is no way I should be losing this much weight. During the power outage caused by the hurricane I did drink more beer than usual, but that was only for three days. I have been on and off low carb diets for two years, for the past 10 days I have been at my current calorie level. If I had lowered my carb level I would understand it, but I have actually increased the number of carbs I eat by 90 a day. No extra cardio, no new supplements, same food I have been eating for months, just at a higher calorie level. I drink a gallon of water a day, that has not changed. When I wake up my mouth is incredibly dry, but I do not show any other signs of dehydration. diabetes is a thought, but I would think at this carb level it would not cause this severe a symptom. Before you say it I have a doc appoinment, but due to the hurricane he is busy as sh*t. I cannot get in there until next Thursday, and at this rate I will be 170 by then :). Anyone have any ideas?

I'm not sure about your case overhead, I know I piss C O N S T A N T L Y ! I think I may have a small bladder anyway, but over the last year I've been drinking 2 L of water by noon and another 2 L from noon til 5:00. I'm thinking of moving my office into the bathroom. My secretary thinks I'm nuts cause every half hour I'm out the door, down the hall, etc.

I think of it as lubricant for all my cells working hard to repair my muscle and such.

'For the past 9 days or so I have been urinating at an alarming rate. I mean like once every hour and a half and at very high volume'

doesn't sound all that alarming, i drink about 2gallons a day and i take a piss literally every 20-30mins at huge volumes...could probably fill a .5l coke bottle....and man when i wake up, i probably lose like 3lbs worth of liquid :-D

and damn, that's a wikkid avatar..

Thanks for the replies, the actual urination did not have me that worried until I stepped on the scale. A thirteen pound loss in 9 or 10 days eating 4000 cals a day is a little strange. I am not currently taking any r-ala, but I have in the past. My kidneys have always been a little off, if I eat too much protein I get gout. It is crazy, but I am 31 and had my first gout attack at age 18 . Last time I had my kidneys checked everything was fine, all my blood work was normal and that was only a couple of months ago. Oh well, hopefully it is nothing, but I just started bulking after focusing on losing weight for a while and this is just really *pissing* me off!!!!! Whats really strange is I have not lost a bit of strength and my workouts have been better than usual. I called my doc back and spoke to a nurse, I told here about the rapid weight lose and my past issues with gout and she decided it was urgent enough to fit me in tomorrow morning. I am just happy there is no *burning* going along with the high volume or else I might be getting a couple of shots and doing a lot of explaining.......... I will post up what the doc says if anyone is interested

yup, keep us posted, i'm really curious now...

and i hope it's nothing serious for you..
peace!

creatine causes water retention.

I retain water from my post workout shake, that has dextrose in it.

Insulin response causes water retention.

well things have not gotten any better, I had a nice fainting thing happen when I got up to leave a meeting today. Stood up out of my chair, started to get tunnel vision and the next thing I knew I was up against the wall in a daze. My boss "forced" me to go to the emergency room, I spent five hours there and learned little except that I should not remove the little EKG pads until I am sure they will not be using them again :). My potassium and Cal levels were real low, but that could be due to the constant urination. Also, my Urea levels were elevated and my white blood count was also higher than normal )kidney infection??). After four hours they told me I was dehydrated, thanks alot doc :). The nurse and I had a nice argument when I refused to drink orange juice, I was trying to explain that I do not consume fructrose , but she did not understand. So I will go to see my normal doc tomorrow to get some more test done. Fun Fun Fun

I know that I drink about 1.5 gallons water per day, basically while I am in school, I down about 32ouncers of water during each 75minute class and I am just dieing to piss about halfway through the second class. I just think that with higher water intake levels, especially at about the 64 ounce mark, your bladder has trouble holding it as your stomach is also full.

6 times a day would be great, last night I got up 4 f-ing times to pee. I cannot stand this weight loss, I keep telling myself it is all water, but I cannot imagine I am in a very good state to put on any muscle. The hard part maybe skipping my de squat/deadlift day tomorrow. It would not be good to pass out while squating :)

dude i piss so much, dep. on sodium intake/ macro's, its' more or less.

I averaged out how many times I pee a day over the last week: came out to about 15 times a day. Pretty ridiculous, but it has been this way for years. I know my bladder must be small, unless someone has another idea? It's not like I'm drinking an inordinate amount of water either (like 5 gallons or something absurd like that). I drink about 1-2 gallons daily. Still, doesn't 15 seem excessive? Kinda sucks when I get up and go during class...and then I get up and go AGAIN during the same class...:o

My concern was the rapid weight loss also. I am use to urinating a lot, I have been on a ckd type diet for a while. Carb up, retain water, then two days of peeing all the time, but this is just crazy. Obviously I have something going on that is not good if it is dehydrating me to a point of passing out when I stand up :). I almost wish I could figure out what is causing it just so I can use it too make weight if I ever have to. I figured it up today, I drank a gallon and a half of water and have been to the bathroom on average once every 35 minutes since I woke up this morning. At this point any "bloat" I had is long gone.
At two gallons a day I would think 15 times would be about normal, as long as you do not feel dehydrated or weak.

Have you been sweating more than normal or are you constantly thirsty? Ask for a glucose tolerance test. Before I knew I was a diabetic and I ate bad, I would get dizzy and light headed. Hopefully it's something else, have them check. Let us know.

I guess you can think of it this way, most people who don't drink as much water as people really into weightlifting/bodybuilding piss about 4-5 times a day minimum. Or atlteast my friends that is. Now you probably consume atleats 2x more water then them, so pissing about 10x a day isn't too off the charts in terms of relative quantities of water.

My doc has no clue what is going on. He pulled a bunch of blood and a urine test, I will have the results Monday. I feel better today, so hopefully it will just clear up by itself. And ofcourse being that I feel better I am off to the gym.

The problem seems to have gone away, my weight has stablized at 184 or so. I backed off on the food some, I think this may have been caused by increasing my calories from 2400 or so to 4000 all at once. I will not know for sure until Monday, but I think that is the problem. I am going to up the cals slowly over two weeks to see if I have the same reaction. The calorie increase was almost all from fat and protein, maybe my body just could not handle it.

I've added creatine to my pw shake and i thought it would cause me to lose cuts so was kinda scared but i've never been more cut up and frankly my gym performance has been noticbly better so its ok for me lol

How much potassium and calcium are you eating each day?

About the same levels I was on the other diet. My first blood results from the ER showed higher than normal levels of potassium but not too high, the spinach, eggs and red meat are taking care of that I think. Not sure about the cal, I do take a cal suppliment and get extra in the protein shakes. I figure that plus the red meat probably has my cal levels in a decent range. As soon as I lowered my food intake back to the previous levels the problem seems to have gone away. I figure an increase of 500 or so a week would be better than the 1500 all at once I did 13 or so days ago. I should have known better than to do that. As you are well aware eating 4000 cals of lower carb food is a hell of a lot of eating. Maybe my body just could not handle 25 onces of red meat, 8 eggs, etc all at once. What really freaked my out some was that by increasing carbs some if anything I should have started retaining more water, not dumping it. It is not like I started drinking soda and eating pasta all day, I just increased carbs to 10% of my calories on workout days.
I have to say I always thought losing weight was harder than gaining it, but I was wrong. I have learned how to lose fat, losing weight is easy now, gaining lean muscle mass without putting on tons of fat is HARD.

BTT. I am drinking about 120oz of water a day plus about 48oz dt soda and I piss basically every 1 hour to 1 hour and a half.

Is anything wrong??

Oh yeah, every urination is strong and steady (steayd for 10-20 seconds). It is often clear. And it's never painful (though usually relieving).
